It’s a fair point though.
Every time there is a cure of away seats at a munster game there is always a few who are quick to dig the boot in, both on here and in the bastion of journalism that is the Indo.

RDS can’t sell out for a perfectly timed Saturday leuropean game, in a relatively small stadium; and there won’t be a single word said.

It wasn't a dig at Leinster, Champions Cup or not a game vs Benetton isn't a marque game.
Pointing out how ridiculous it was to call a similar attendance for a Pro14 game terrible.

All the rugby and great games this weekend and that was the first thing that comes to mind :rolleyes:

Not saying anything about the Munster crowd but a Munster v Ulster game in my eyes would be a bigger game to a Leinster v Benetton no matter what competition. I would always say the Irish derby match's are bigger than most group games.....

Neither Munster nor Leinster but Ulster supporter here so completely neutral on the attendance figures debate . Over 15,000 for visit of Benetton in CC is a fair attendance IMHO. Ulster play Clermont on Friday night and considering yesterday's results this should be a cracker yet I was still able to get tickets last night via Ticketmaster.

BT commentators giving out about Thomas having a foot in touch. Hard to say. I think in the frame the BT commentators are complaining about, Thomas's foot was hovering just above the line rather than touching it.

Yes but we know many previously stalwart Ulster supporters became very disenchanted with the way the place was run under that fool Logan and also other contiguous 'matters.' The team has few actual Ulster players in it. Rugby is dying a slow dance of death partly because of changes in the education system and also demographic shifts and the attractions of post school life in other parts of the U.K.

Ulster Clermont will be sold out by match day so I wouldn't worry. There's less than 100 on sale right now. But I wouldn't trust Ticketmaster numbers anyway - they do lots of shady staggered ticket releases and raise/lower prices when it suits them to manipulate demand.

Season ticket holder numbers were back up this year (and didn't actually drop that noticeably when the controversy was at it's loudest - the numbers had been trending slowly downwards for a few years due to poor performance so it).

Totally agree. Rugby at AIL level may be dancing towards expiration (I stopped watching it almost 6 years ago and I'm sure I'm not the only one) but rugby at professional level is alive and kicking. BTW the very first Catholic Maintained School to compete in the Schools Cup are doing so at present in the qualifying competition.

Let's not write the obituary notice for Ulster Rugby. They're not at Leinster and Munster's level but neither are Connacht and Ireland had a clean sweep of provincial success at the weekend in the top table of European rugby. Ulster and Connacht's opening day wins were significant and both have chances of qualifying for the knock out stages.

Interesting looking tournament this year.

Some of the pools will start to take shape after this weekend.

Munster and Ulster have must win games - home matches against likely contenders for pool top spot. Either team loses and you would say that whilst qualification to knock outs is still very much on the cards, the path beyond quarter and certainly semi final becomes dramatically more challenging.

Toulouse were impressive in the opening round without getting into top gear. Connacht should be aiming for a losing bonus point but against a try scoring French side at home it's going to be a very tough ask.

Leinster can settle for a lbp more so than Ulster / Munster as they are away but given Lyon's performance against Newcastle I wonder are the Premiership side the greater threat. An away win this weekend doesn't really change the pool much, albeit if Northampton lose away to Benneton then suddenly there is daylight between Leinster and the chasing pack.
