Have a lot of work been done in garden in the next week or so. Was planning to get a gates after Christmas and would like to go electric.

While I have the diggers in was going to get the wires buried from the house to the gate.

What do I get..is it the actual wire or a ducting type stuff to pull the wire through ..

    What type wire etc...

    Good timing, well done.

Ok select a position for the Control Unit for the Electric Gates, you can hide that in behind a wall or gate pillar. You would need a duct from there for a constant electrical supply, then perhaps a second duct for low voltage wiring for Intercoms etc that you may require inside the house.

From the Gate Control Unit run a duct to the hinge sides of both gates. If you are going for underground motors and as you have machinery and hopefully someone with the know how, it would be best to get the motor foundation boxes into position now also.

Also you need to duct the internal safety photocells also, these go on either side of the driveway just inside the point at which the gates fully open.

    good timing, as Kub said

I would suggest you install the Gate control box in a hager cabinet on the inside on your walls,

this will give the Came or what ever make control box more protection from weather, files & insects.

Run SWA cables from house / garage to where you will be positioning the control box,
What type of Intercom are you thinking?
Wired back to a dedicated phone in your house, CAT 5/ 6 / Polly Polly will work here. - wold require a CAT 5 / 6 from pilar back into house.

also you have the option of a GSM Intercom, this will need a CAT 5/ 6 / Polly Polly cable from pilar back to control box.

Get down your underground boxes now and have a duct between these, also run a duct inside the gates to run you Poly Poly to the pilars,

Run 1 x polly polly for a Keypad, also run a 2nd for GSM intercom, Make sure these are all in Ducts, in the event of a faulty cable down the road you will be able to pull a new cable in!!! you need to future plan

Also are you looking at GSM gate opener? If you get the AES Prime 6 this is a GSM intercom and also will open your gates when you dial the SIM card in the unit,
cost here is €5 every 6 months to keep the Sim card alive.

You should also consider the lights, you can hook the gates control box up to lights, so when you open the gate when dusk / dark ince you have a relay / photocell installed, this could turn on your pilar lights / bollards if you have them

    just something to think about!
