"Dealz" is opening in Stillorgan Shopping Centre on Sept 3rd. :)

It is located where Post Office used to be and also the former Kenneth Hodgkins furniture unit. There is already a branch in Blanchardstown and to be another new one opening in Bloomfield Sh Centre in D Laoire.
Good to see some investment in Bloomfields. Bestseller have obviously made the decision that Dun Laoghaire has a future.

It's a shame to see the other shops go though, hopefully one of them will pop up in the old Vero Moda shop.
DLTV has become Boydd barretts clinic.
    Tuthills Bloomfields relocating to Dundrum.

It is great to see the new shops opening up in Bloomfields.

You can include in Bloomfields, the new Jack & Jones & new look Vero Moda outlets.

And on Georges Street, there is a new 3 Mobile and NCBI charity shop included.

Dun Laoghaire Shopping Centre has from the Sony Centre being closed. There is a new bargain store called Tiger located there for some time. A new Doc Morris Pharmacy has opened outside the centre replacing Unicare.

In Dundrum S.C. one of the two former Game stores near Easons is being turned into a greeting card shop. The acupuncture and herbalist shop beside that is also closed.

    greeting card shop.
That'd be the last type of shop I would think of opening. You get them in supermarkets & €2 shops and they seem to have dropped in price, I see newsagents with €1 cards now. And I expect with emails people send less these days.

I will add in two more places which opened in George's Street in Dun Laoghaire.

There is a mini Art gallery which replaced a polish owned food store named Gifts Art Gallery. That is located beside Fitzpatrick's Casino & Private Members Club.

I also passed a new coffee retail store today owned by J.J Darboven Ireland.

It sell's coffee as a retail unit, it is not used as a traditional cafe for customers. A wide range of packaged coffee is sold there at variable prices. The store is located beside the estate agents, DNG, further up beside it has Argos.

Starbucks really are rolling out very quickly. I follow their openings not because I drink their coffee, but because they seem to act as a development barometer. It's such great news to hear that they're opening up in Stillorgan. For a long time Stillorgan was going downhill. (Rumour has it that there was going to be a redevelopment of the shopping centre, so the leases weren't getting renewed. Then the recession hit, so that put paid to that!) I always liked Stillorgan- even though it's a bit dated, it's got that charm that say Dundrum lacks.

On the other hand, Nutgrove was always a fairly average shopping centre. Not awful, but not great. Hopefully the addition of Starbucks will help keep it attractive as a place to set up shop.

Subway in Dun Laoghaire has closed. Mind you, I'm not surprised given that it was empty half of the time I went their. Now I'll have to go all the way into town or (an inaccessible from Dalkey) Cherrywood for a foot-long meatball marinara. On the upside, I'll cherish one a lot more with bigger intervals between each one. YUMMY!:D

Treasury Holdings had big plans for the area back in 2006, but fortunately it never got started, or the area might have turned in Sandyford mark 2. Now that it's clear that we won't be seeing a demolition any time soon, the occupancy rate has soared.

Btw completely agree with your perspective on Stillorgan v Dundrum/Nutgrove. The centre gets a lot of criticism, but SSC does have a quaint charm that makes it enjoyable to visit, even at weekends. It certainly doesn't have the same manic sense of arrive/queue/buy/flee that pervades Dundrum, or cringeworthy Tiger-esque shops like Hollister. Though the poor parking layout and dreadful Tesco does bring down the centre a little. Still, it's infinitely better than its contemporary peer in Phibsboro.

When did DL Subway close? I was there two weeks ago.

I don't know if the Cherrywood Subway is still open though as I went up there two weeks ago (I had a hankering for a steak and cheese footlong) but couldn't find it. There were signs for Subway but they pointed to a building with no open shops.

Starbucks has recently opened in Nutgrove. Seems an unusual location, given that they'd go for more upmarket areas when out of town.

Maybe the area is getting some overspill "cred" (not sure how else to put it!!) from Dundrum?

I think they call it "gentrification" when a previously shabby area starts attracting more upmarket tenants/businesses as more well heeled residents start moving in. Maybe, I''m mistaken but I always thought Churchtown/Rathfarnham was quite a middle class area which would be the typical Starbucks demographic? Upmarket areas are not always a gaurantee of success for retailers like Starbucks though. (Dalkey and Ranelagh lost their Starbucks cafes).

It seems that Starbucks does poorly in areas that already have a local "cafe culture" - people tend to prefer the local coffee shop to the generic multinational alternative. This isn't just a phenomenon in Dublin, it's been a problem for Starbucks in the US for a number of years.

Oh yes, Starbucks is very good at following the gentrification curve! I often wonder who they employ to scout out new locations, as they usually hit the nail on the head. (Not always, of course!) You're right that Churchtown and Rathfarnham are middle class, but Nutgrove SC is surrounded by a couple of (ex?) council estates and a settled traveller street, and is noticeably "rougher". It wouldn't be on par with the rest of Churchtown anyway. I think you're right that upmarket areas wouldn't be the best place for that kind of chain cafe. There's a row of shops at Supervalu Churchtown, where I could see it fitting in-- the only problem would be footfall, as well as the fact that there's an established cafe there already iirc.

Was down in Nutgrove today, and gotta say it's looking much better than it used to. The central area "food court" looks good-- much better than it did when they initially put it in, and miles and miles better than the pond/fountain thing that used to be in its place years ago.

Its the hidden Subway, follow the path behind Spar to the lakeside then turn left.

Graffiti/Gourmet Grill in Rathmines seems to have shut up, however long they lasted. There's a sign outside stating it's closed indefinitely, but there's a To Let/For Sale sign (I can't recall which) gone up outside since.

Little Ass pulled out of Rathmines a while ago, stating that they're setting up a city-centre outlet, and they'd get another gaf up and running in Rathmines soon, but there's seems to be no rumblings about that since they left.

I, for one, have no idea what could take over the old KFC either. I can tell it hasn't even been viewed since the franchise pulled out, as there's still pack-up gear left in the shop's front since it shut.

Cheeverstown Charity shop is gone plop too. Now, that's a shame, sound staff and they'd none of that 'stuff in window isn't for sale' malarkey.

Between Extreme Pizza/Little Ass, KFC and Pizza Hut pulling out of that one turn/strip in recent memory, it seems to be a difficult place to keep running. I imagine/speculate that the rents must be extortionate, considering its potential foot-traffic, but the landlords musn't have reduced their lease-price to accommodate the state of doing business in post-08 Dublin.

Incidentally not quite a reopening, but it appears that the Stillorgan Shopping Centre has rebranded itself as "Stillorgan Village"

Starbucks are to open in the recently closed newsagent 'Cosmopolitan' unit. Meanwhile 'Costa Coffee' are open in the Ormonde foyer across the road .. very quiet for morning coffee and bit chilly close to main doors of Ormonde.

I'm happy to hear that. I always liked this centre for quick purchases but it was starting to look manky a couple of years ago. I like the refreshments they made although I will miss the newsagents.

I was in Stillorgan yesterday. I'd never been in Dealz before, was pleasantly surprised. It was surpringly big. I was expecting it to be like a small, cramped poundshop. It is in the corner where the post office and vodafone used to be

The new Dealz outlet opening soon in Bloomfields in Dun Laoghaire is going to take up the space of two stores. Tuthills and a womans clothes shop was there before that. It is going to have big competition against Tesco a few metres away.

I had seen buliders in there working on the shop today. A big sign was placed outside it covering the front entrance. That front entrance btw is blooming massive. :D

What have the people done to deserve that?

Now that the road tax has to be got somewhere near O'Connell St, if I need to do it manually, I have no reason to go there now.
