    36 mins
    Am well proud of myself.
    Never ran since childhood.
46 now, off the cigs 4 years.
Started running out of boredom and frustration a month ago
Joined a casual club, discovered it was not as completely dreadful as I though it would be.
If anyone is on the fence about starting, don't think, get on with it.
Nobody cares what you look like

Well done, congratulations that's a big achievement.

Maybe you could share a bit more about the journey for anyone reading who might need pointers! Did you/the club follow a couch to 5k plan or other? Have you signed for Park run?

    What's the next goal!?!

    wow, thanks all.
    OK
me 46, 115 kgs, so ideal weight i suppose is 90-95kg
off smokes , still vaping, cigars when drunk
Joined a club in Cork, the Wibbly Wobbley Wonders. (perfect name)
Started out on the baby 2:2 program, 2 mins jog, 2 mins walk.
Hardest part for me was psychological.
Every step i could feel my belly jiggle
Every step my face got redder and redder, very self conscious.

Little goals, I did that 2 mins, I can do another.
If I have to walk a bit to get myself together, I walk, the members are very supportive.

Bought a pair of fancy runners, I like my knees.

I don't care about weight right now , I want to not be out of breath walking up the stairs.
Not signed up for anymore atm.
Club meets Tue and Thurs evenings, this is enough for me for the now.
The 5k was foisted on me in work cos I had mentioned I had started running.
I said fek it, and did it.
Now I have my first ever medal

Very sincere "well done" to you, the first 5km is the hardest (said as someone just back jogging, after 2-ish years of injury and starting from scratch)

Well done, started myself at 43 to loose the 'spread'. Word of warning 5k is only the start... Swore 5's and 10's were my max, 6 months after I started ran my first marathon. Enjoy the journey and once more well done.

You should be proud of yourself. Its hard to make a big change. Many on here have started from the same place so can totally understand. Your in a great club. Used to run a night as I didn't want anyone to see me run. At the end of the day like in any sport it doesn't matter where you are only that you try to do better than you did before. Starting back running from couch potatoe was the best thing I ever did in so many way. The only negative thing that might happen is that running will impact your life so positively that you will start to annoy non runners like your a born again christian try to convert them :) but thats what running clubs are for.

    When is the next race?
