Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yes that weird wooden box that it comes in was broken also on the I've that I got. Poor design. The whole thing was bubble wrapped outside that in any case.

Mine was also bubble wrapped, and the box wasn't sealed with 'clingfilm'.. .. Can't get it to accept my SIM, Think I got a refurbished unit, I did a a factory reset and it still says "no sim".. Anyone else get their Sim to work in it?... Also, no earphones.

I tried a three Sim in it yesterday, same thing "no sim". Tried both slots, maybe not compatible with Irish cellular bands? I've no intention of using 4g in it anyway, happy enough using wifi or tethering from my phone.

haven't tried a sim card as have no need to (and don't have tablet now as it's with a family member)- weird that it wouldn't work though.

can't remember if there was plastic on outside of box on mine - don't think that there was actually. don't think that it would be a refurb as this tablet is not long out at all and geekbuying is a kosher site from my experience.

says that it supports all these bands

    WCDMA:B1 B2 B5 B8
    FDD LTE:B1 B3 B7

Has anyone got an Irish SIM card to work in this device?

I just tried to buy one. At the second last step the price increased to €174? Is this VAT?

Didnt chose Germany by any chance? Spain is cheaper and use code GKBMEGA08.

Used Spain and code. The price just jumped up to 174. Tried Live Chat for an explanation but it did not work at that time.

Is it not worth it or were you looking for the sim option?

Yeah, the reason I bought it was because it had SIM slots.

just a query why would you want the expense of a second sim card plan / prepay in Ireland when you can share a connection from your phone?

I wouldn't get a second SIM, I don't use my personal phone for calls or texts I only use it for data, I use my work phone for calls/texts.

well it's weird that it doesn't pick up the sim - if you wish to return it as that doesn't work you could.

most people won't be using that feature but it is an advertised feature of the device.

I ordered this and received confirmation of the order on Saturday. Since then I have heard nothing. Should I be worried?

It hasn't been in stock for the last few days so you may have no other option.

only 2gb ram (3gb is min these days really) and a cpu less than 1/2 the power of the x27 - not sure about that.

It's fairly old alright. I'd spend the extra €50 and get the Tab A 10.5 over it. Added bonus that it can use the Tab S4 keyboard case.

Well mine is officially lost. Dhl handed it off to An Post who then delivered it to god knows where and in typical an post fashion its a black hole with no means of contact.. Will contact Geekbuying and then try get refund through paypal.

  • Registered Users Posts: 210 ✭✭Mistmyr

    An Post delivered mine today.

Looked like someone sat on the box but the tablet was fine inside.

Very nice for the money. Screen is great and its very fast and responsive.

Maybe a little overkill for eBook reading but it handles big PDF manuals and magazines with ease.

Only had it a day but no issues yet :)

I tried with the one that I purchased for a family member and it didn't pick up the sim card.

so that's 3 reports of the sim functionality not working. I wonder if it's disabled or something.

Poland warehouse was out of stock so ordered from Spain. Have ordered from Poland before and no problems. Have emailed An Post and dhl, dhl responded with a not our problem reply and typically An Post are silent. Have opened a paypal claim.

SIM not working for me either... Found the below in a techtablets review.

Just when you thought the Chinese 9.7-inch retina tablets where all but gone and dead. Voyo is back with one and this is still a decent screen, the 9.7″ 4:3 ratio 1536 x 2048 “retina” screen. It looks to be fully laminated with 2.5D glass in a thin 8.5mm shell. The tablet is called the Voyo i8 and is powered by now all too common Chinese tablet/mobile chipset the Helio X27. So it will make calls, dual SIM 4G but it doesn’t have all the common EU bands like band 20 which isn’t great but it has at least band 1, 7 and 3 LTE which many EU countries use.

that's not a review tho - he never had a tablet to review.

even then should connect on 3g or even 2g. not picking up sims at all.

Got refunded for lost tablet and reordered from Poland warehouse which turned up yesterday. Overall a decent tab, fast enough for browsing and media. Screen could be a little brighter but good enough. SIM cards not working like all the others.

Picked it up after dithering about since originally posted.

    Used code: PICODIAU

    Sub Total: EUR 168.98

Shipping from Poland, very fast progress according to the tracking email.

Just worth noting that that code is actually increasing the price, from 160 to 169. Having said that, I only see DPD shipping, for 1.90, so not sure if we are talking about the same thing at this stage of the thread. Just going to the link in the OP, the total price shipped is 161.99.

Good spot - yeah, it's the same product, but the browser redirected to the US site then back to EU - don't know if that affected the process?

Although as it turns out, the expedited shipping is what I needed anyway, so all's well that ends well. :pac:

yes it's a solid enough tablet with decent ram and storage space.

the screen isn't as good as the specs suggested initially but it's still decent. I don't think that the screen is fully laminated as was thought originally and I find the colours a bit saturated even with messing with the settings.

cpu power is enough for most.

battery life is reasonable at 7 hours or so.

for 150 euro it's pretty good compared to what you get in a B&M shop in Ireland tho

still no sign of dedicated tablet cases which is a bit strange.

Interested in this but want a good screen and strong cpu and RAM for running home automation user interface. What would be next tier up in 250-300 bracket?

Defo an air gapped screen and a fairly big gap at that. For in door use it’s bright enough even though you end up pushing brightness to 80%+. Good enough for the money and if we can get SIM cards working it’ll be a steal.

well even the current apple ipad base model isn't fully laminated either!

and as you said it's fine for indoor use.

still surprised the techtablets guy got it wrong (said that it appeared fully laminated) - then again he didn't have one in hand.

still have no idea why sim cards are not detected. seems to be working from reviews on sites of other purchasers.
most people won't have a use for it (wifi or share data from phone) but still...
unless it's location blocked but see no reason why it should be....
