Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Rankin 1/36 off 10. 20 needed.

...yikes...2 boundaries then a wicket in 3 balls... 6 runs needed, we need to get cottrell!!!...

  • Registered Users Posts: 398 ✭✭liamoreilly

...Ugh, could not have been closer ever to a wicket...

  • Registered Users Posts: 398 ✭✭liamoreilly

...FFS, absolutely blew it there in the 2nd last ball, simple simple catch to run him out...

I turned it off when Pollard started hitting it out of the ground. Not sure if I'm happy or disappointed Ireland ran them so close in the end.

Think you got to be happy, the ohhh close yet so far away part, is frustrating, especially having been on top and in control of the game for so long but... here you are now watching an Ireland cricket team, capable of beating the West Indies out on their own patch. In fact came within two deliveries of doing so.. I never thought I’d be typing that.

Pushing the WI right to the end of the game, Hats off to balbo brilliant captaincy

West Indies win toss and put Ireland in

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Bad start for Ireland with both openers gone.

Stirling never got going while McCollum started well but drove a ball which was on the up and it was an easy catch.

Very good pitch. Ireland have a lot of work to do.

15 overs in and the run rate is under 3. Singles really only appear to be the only way to trouble the scorers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Porterfield out lbw to a full ball by Chase. 51/3 in the 18th over and Ireland going nowhere at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,796 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

We seem to struggle a bit when it’s full and straight, then again two bad shortish deliveries down leg side and what should have been 8 runs only was 1.

A run a ball here will give us 230-240 and make a game of it. Pity we threw a few wickets away early on

240 is probably realistic. Being 5 down already I don’t think it gives the players much leeway to go too attacking. Punish the bad deliveries and keep the strike rotating..

Another wicket thrown away, he was well set, very well set, looking towards a hundred playing well then a lazy loose shot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,796 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

That delivery was there to be hit but slightly late on it and a simple catch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,314 ✭✭✭BOHtox

Losing by 5 wickets flatters us really. We were never really in it. Needed another batsman to hang on in there with Balbo. Anyway, huge learning curve, lots of positives to take. We only get better by playing at this level and I've seen enough from us to justify our place on these tours.

Looking forward to the T20s. Looking forward to Tector and Little coming in. Both only 20. Genuine pace threatens on these pitches. It could be right up Little's street. Big chance for Tector too. A good series and he could take Porterfield's spot.

Had a look at the summer fixtures there and there are fúck all games down as taking place in Dublin, with the entire New Zealand ODI series taking place in Bready???? Surely not?

I know, bloody criminal. Maybe concerts or something preventing games in malahide?
Still tho, Pakistan should hopefully draw a crowd.

Next game on tomorrow. The start of the T20i series. Be interesting to see what side is put out. Josh Little and Harry Tector, both 20, called up as William Porterfield and James McCollum aren't picked for this squad

Ireland bat first again after winning the toss

Very good start by Stirling and O’Brien, 51 off the first four overs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 961 ✭✭✭Conchir

And now 50 for Paul Stirling off just 20 balls. Very encouraging start.

Need around 220, good start, but 2 quick wickets

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,796 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Sterling gone... went for a big shot that also would have secured the hundred but he’s instead walking... two new batsmen at the crease now, run rate might slow a good deal as they try and get in.. pity.. 200 was on the cards, 190 looking more realistic now,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,796 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Boundaries have dried up altogether and some good disciplined bowling has us hitting the fielders instead of the scoreboard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,224 ✭✭✭Hodors Appletart

    balbo gone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,224 ✭✭✭Hodors Appletart

    tector gone

    ireland being skittled

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,796 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Tector gone, a delivery short, wide and asking to be smacked to the boundary but instead smacked to a West Indies fielder.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 961 ✭✭✭Conchir

A big ol wobble but we have 2 overs now to finish the innings well, with Delany and Wilson looking settled and ready to hit.
