Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi Folks

Just looking for some advice. I have the above unit and have noticed that the air blower is not as strong as it used to be and the hot air is not getting as hot.

Due to her age I'm looking for a bit of advice on where to start troubleshooting before the real winter comes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Heater matrix could well be fairly crud heavy after 25 years of use.
At a glance is the coolant fresh enough looking?

Yep looks clear enough but was going to change it anyway. Fyi, I'm a kerb side diy'er with very limited tools. So first port of call is the heater matrix. Is that easy enough the clean?

First port of call is the fan.

Fan is blowing and there is heat, but pressure/heat is poor enough.

If the fan is working on all speeds there's very little scope for anything to be amiss with it.

First job would have to be thermostat, more then likely stuck half open. Should be cheap and easy diy job on that age car. Heater matrix would be a pig of a job.

The fan is what creates the pressure, could be full of dust.

Did you change the pollen filter recently?

I am assuming that this is the unit that's inside the car under the dash, the one where the vent hoses go in. Dont want to sound like a dope, but havnet taken one of these out before. Will get the screwdrivers out and see if I can remove it or at least open it.

No mention of the engine temp not maintaining 90 degs ish when on the go.
I wouldn't be changing a stat based on what's in the OP.

Engine maintains temp on the go. No fluctuations with the needle

Found a guide here https://www.autozone.com/repairguides/Mazda-323-MX-3-626-MX-6-Millenia-Prot%C3%A9g%C3%A9-1990-1998-and-Ford-Probe-1993-1997/HEATING-AND-AIR-CONDITIONING/Blower-Motor/_/P-0996b43f80cb0f82. Looks simple enough

    Does a 1993 323 even have one?

Would seriously doubt it, they weren't really introduced in lower end cars until the 00's

She has only alright, one of those red fin yolks.

Sure the japs where miles ahead

Where is it located? Because even most jap cars in that class didn't have one until the late 90's early 00's

Right hand side of the engine bay in the black box

run it without it to see if it improves. I used to have a Mazda 323 96 1.7 diesel with the turbo vent on the bonnet. Brings back the good old days

That will be the engine air filter which has nothing to do with the ventilation system. :)
