I thought the ending of the Mist was brilliant....albeit incredibly grim!

Oh, it was brilliant... but it was horrible.

Where does everyone watch all these horrors? Some good ones I'd like to see but can't find them on the usual streaming platforms.

Do you use JustWatch.com/ie? There is an app too. It lets you filter by genre as well which is handy.

A lot of the older movies sadly aren't on the big two streamers, but you still have the following movies (of varying quality)......

    Netflix:
    • Land of the Dead (remake)
    • Bram Stokers Dracula
    • Hereditary
    • IT
    • Silence of the Lambs
    • Cabin in the Woods
    • Annihilation
    • A Quiet Place
    • Orphan
    • The Invitation
    • Insidious (an sequels)
    • The Purge (and sequels)
    • Sinister
    • Crimson Peak
    • The Visit
    • Annabelle
    • The Platform
    • Hush
    • Exorcism of Emily Rose
    • Species (and sequels)
    • Cargo
    • Krampus

    Amazon:
    • Conjuring
    • Midsommar
    • The Shining
    • Silence of the Lambs (again)
    • Cabin in the Woods (again)
    • Suspiria
    • Constantine
    • Orphan (again)
    • Night of the Living Dead
    • Sean of the Dead
    • Life
    • Let Me In (remake I think)
    • Mama
    • The Girl With All The Gifts

All4 (limited window to watch these!!)
    • Bone Tomahawk
    • The Love Witch

If you have NowTV for movies, you will obviously have a much bigger selection of movies to choose from.
And just flicking through the Amazon list, by GOD Amazon have a shocking amount of drivel on there!!!

Ok. So I went back over all the posts so far to see what people voted most for. I did it quite quickly but i think it's pretty accurate.

    1. The Exorcist
    2. The Omen
    3. Halloween
    4. Nightmare On Elm Street
    5. The Thing / Hereditary / Rosemary's Baby

    They're not mutually exclusive.

Ah you're very welcome, but I really just used the JustWatch website and tried to pull out the ones that I thought were good or at least decent! :D
A couple (as mentioned) are on multiple services, in case you only have Netflix or Amazon but not both.

Pity that many of the "classics" are really only available to rent or perhaps on Sky/NowTV.
Shudder, which specialises in horror titles, actually has very few of the old old classics, but has some newer classic (90s onwards) and newer indy and foreign horror titles.

I can't watch horror, prefer ghost stories.

    Ordered by year:

    The Others (2001)
    Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001)
    Pan's Labyrinth (2006)
    The Orphanage (2007)

I agree that genres are never exclusive of each other, but i do tend to have a personal ranking where for example a comedy/horror for me is still just basically comedy, or a sci-fi/horror for me is just sci-fi

Haven't read all the thread but I cannot recommend Possum highly enough. Probably the best modern horror movie I've seen in the last 5 years.

Very low budget, minimal cast, light on dialogue but an absolute belter of a psychological horror. Dont read anything about it, just watch it. Its only 80 odd minutes long too which is great.

I Saw The Devil, while not strictly a horror, contains some serious tension and has more twists and turns than spaghetti junction.

South Korea's A Tale of Two Sisters is very good too. I agree the consensus on RT
Restrained but disturbing, A Tale of Two Sisters is a creepily effective, if at times confusing, horror movie.

Not a film but I watched Haunting of hill house over the last week, really good. A real intelligent, complex ghost story.

    Dont Look Now

In a class of its own way above most of the cheese on offer here.

Probably hard to get on line or whatever as a lot of people have never heard of it. If you can get it watch it. Only bad thing about it is the name which seems wilfully sperficial but might make you think you are going to see a normal horror movie

It's one of the most iconic movies from the seventies. Most people with more than a passing interest in cinema will know it.

Watched Possum yesterday from your recommendation, thanks.

Very powerful performances. The mood was intense and beautifully captured with a great score.
Excellent film making, although not all threads of the story resolved for me, still a bit confused.
