Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,
Does anyone have any sample papers for qfa loans and regulation exams, one's previous to jan '08.
I find them really helpful, but they remove all the older ones from the website and only leave you the most up to date ones. The institute of insurance only have papers for insurance and pensions.(for non-members anyway)
Someone might have saved them, so if you have could I have a look. Loans exam this weekend and regulation(more worried about this:() saturday week.

Or does anyone know where i can get some.

    Thanks,
    gogo

It's ridiculous how the IOB don't offer any past papers to students. The sample papers in my last exam (investments) were nothing like the exam questions which were a lot harder ( and not just because I didn't have the answers beside me :D ). Coupled with the fact that they are looking for 65% for a pass methinks its all a bit of a moneymaking scheme for the IOB....

Will you please send me a copy of regulation past papers. Or please tell me your address, I shall come and collect it.

Thanks a lot. Please reply to anirudhan@eircom.net

    Thanks

Unfortunatley at a price, and the exams have to be taken on line, can't print them out and study them at your leisure.

Sat pensions and regulations yesterday as well, am sick at the moment and had to leave the exam early, was mortified, though I was going to pass out tho. I took so many antibotics and painkillers, I couldn't see the exam, finished regulation in twenty minutes, didn't look over it or anything, infact i couldn't repeat a question on it. Wobbled out of the hall with everyone staring at me :o Still though it wasn't too bad, wasn't anything unexpected on it. Pensions was a different story tho.
Anyway i have two life assurance papers, pm me your details and I'll stick them in the post, have one saved so can email that if you prefer.

    Hi all

Im reging for these this month. Just wondering, is the negative marking with the multiple choice or simply one point for right, zero for right?

    Thanks in advance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,452 ✭✭✭gogo

As far as i know they do not mark negatively, its either a right or wrong answer, but on my results transcript the results have points, i.e . 86.3 or 85.5 not to sure where the points comes from. As most of your answers choices are very similar, and with matematical ones, it could have four answers that you will reach a varing points of your calculation, (can be confusing and mictakes happen when you see the answer you got and forget to finish off the calculation properly). So I assume the points are for these type of questions where you got some of it right, but not negatevely marked.
    hope this makes sense.

Did investments last year, was tough but it passed ... just about.

There were quiet a few tricky questions on exit tax and cashing in policies e.g. Larry lives in Luxembourg and is going to cash in his tracker bond in which he invested 100K and is currently worth 220K, how much will he get?

    Hi Guys,

Looking for a bit of help there from anyone who may have completed QFA exams. I recently qualified as an accountant but now i want to do another course to further myself obviously with the objective of getting a job in a bank in the long run. How long does it take to complete the course and would anybody recommend this option for me? Cheers in advance.

    Adi

    Hi jockey#1,
I'm about to sit my 5th qfa(sat 12th-wish me luck)-it's taken me the best part of 2years to get this far...
my 6th exam is in January-that'll be the last one... :D:D
I would def recommend the course-it's very broad and covers alot of areas-has really helped me anyway... I feel more confident giving advice to customers(i work in a bank).
My advice would be to do them 1exam at a time-esp investments, pensions and regulations... They are the toughest ones, with the highest failure rate...:(:(
I've done all of mine through the lia and have found the lecturers very helpful, and there are lots of downloadable past papers and practice questions online.. and there are contact numbers for the lecturers etc which can be very useful seeing as it is mostly a self taught course...
If there is anything you are wondering about that i haven't answered just let me know and i will do my best to answer it for you..

    Hi Karl,
    How'd the exam go?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5 redmal09

RE: Negative Marking, you get 3 marks for every correct answer, for every question skipped it is 0, and for everry wrong answer -1. The pass rate has lowered to 50% - so to pass you need to get 50 questions right assuming you answered 30 incorrectly which is 50%, or 40 right and 40 unanswered.

if ur registered with the iob, they have online exams, which give you your result as soon as you have submitted form, and there is a pilot paper in the study guide and also a past exam on there too..:)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 44 CALLY0412

qfas are not based on a neg marking system.. never have been..
if you answer a question incorrectly you just get zero for that question..
have all bar one of my qfas done and none have operated neg marking.

Cally0412, No you're wrong, QFA exmas are negatively marked now. -1 for an incorrectly answered question. 3 for a correctly answered question and nothing for not answering it. And pass mark is now 50%

Actually easier to pass now in my oponion.

Supposing you know 40%, take a 50/50 of 40% and blind guess of 20% then your scores on average would be

    old system : 120 + 60 + 16 = 196 outta 300 = 65.3% = barely pass!
    new system : 120 + 60 - 20 + 15 - 15 = 160 outta 300 = 53.3% = pass with a bit to spare!

So its easier to pass now!

    Hi
I'm doing Regulation exam on 24th March.Does anyone have any tips for me? I have only 1 sample paper to review online.(always had at least 2 to review) would anyone have a few they could send me?? I'm doing it with IOB and the book is so badly laid out. It seems to all roll into one. The online test on each chapter is good but I would prefer to print out to review more often than having to log on etc...

Would be happy with any information. Thanks

trying to find them myself... still waiting on manuals to arrive and bricking it if they are voluminous... dont know what i signed up for..... if you manage to get them, and could forward them to me i'd be grateful... maybe a study forum would help everyone to exchange ideas and help every one pass.. wonder if you or anyone else is interested in such a forum.

    Hi
I have my regulation exam this saturday and im wondering does anyone have any past exam papers that they wouldnt mind sharing with me? or is there anywhere i can access past exam papers, id really appreciate any help I can get. Im registered with the institute of bankers and they only give one exam paper :( ans id like to get some more practice before the exam
    My email is <email snipped>

  • Registered Users Posts: 14 ifwah

Im also sitting Regulation in May, sat loans in January and the only thing that helped me was doing the full mcq test on the IOB website over and over and over again! It really is a joke that theres no sample papers anymore and no lectures.
I listened to the live 'lecture' for loans and it was a disgrace, didnt go through anything that was helpful at all, really just the same as the videos at the end of the chapters.
Id defo be interested in like a forum for questions people are having difficulty with that others might be able to help it, I think thats a great idea.
Such a money making scam, €165 to resit :(
