Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Bus Éireann is seeking to have lanes on motorways, including the M50 in Dublin, reserved exclusively for public transport vehicles.

In proposals submitted in recent days to the National Transport Authority for its 2018-22 strategy, the State-owned transport company called for the provision of bus-priority measures on the main public transport corridors.

It said these should include designating lanes for buses and higher occupancy vehicles on motorways into Dublin city and in provincial cities and towns.

how many bus eireann services use the M50?

Well..they said Motorways so i guess it has to effect them all.

Can't see much of a time saving achievable given that buses have to limit their speed anyway. Very few Motorways get clogged up prior to becoming regular DCs towards city (think N7, N4). Maybe a case for it at Naas but outside of that not much.

    The 4/X4, X8, X12, 109X, 111X, 132 all use it.

it's a clear case of them asking for something they know is impossible to deliver.

it's a clear case of them asking for something they know is impossible to deliver.

Must be something in the air .. like RTE wanting cable operators to pay them for the channels.

But let's assume this was a "thing".. I'm assuming that one of the existing 3 M50 lanes would just be repainted. Sure that wouldn't cause traffic chaos at all!

Even more fun if they tried it on the M7/M4... reduce all other traffic to a single lane - and of course, you'd have to reduce the limit to 80/100 km/h as well no doubt.

Your tax Euros at work Ladies and Gentlemen!

This is the important line in the article:
It said these should include designating lanes for buses and higher occupancy vehicles on motorways into Dublin city and in provincial cities and towns.

If that's correct, the headline and opening paragraph etc are misleading.

Intercity buses use it too, quite a load of them and private buses and coaches.

If you could widen and add another lane to the M50 and the close to Dublin M7, to create a bus, EV, HOV lane, then it would make sense.

However just painting over an existing lane to turn it into one would be pointless and chaotic.

Also no need for it on the rest of the intercity motorways, at least not until you come close to Cork/Limerick/Galway. The intercity motorways are pretty empty as it is and no need for it. You almost already have it, coaches and trucks trundle along the left hand lane at 100km/h while most cars quickly overtake them in the overtaking lane.
