Move fiber line and gpon to another room

    I live in a house that is a little remote. Worrying about burglars cutting the phone line for the alarm which is dropped from above into the living room. I want to move the entry into a room upstairs so they would need a ladder. How difficult is it to splice the cable into the gpon if I pull it out and through the wall, presumably I would have to resplice as it would be contaminated and damaged as I pull it through the wall and route upstairs through another wall. What tools are needed and are they on ebay.Would I be better calling eir and letting them do it? Ta

    I would agree. This is not a DIY job and I wouldn't go near a fibre cable. I would contact Eir if you really wanted to go ahead with it but I would also look at other options such as getting a backup service using mobile \ sim card.

    fiber splicing is expensive, and is a skilled part of the job, dont do it, get the isp to.

    You won’t be able to splice it yourself without specialist equipment.

    I would suggest if you’re concerned about your alarm, add a backup unit using the mobile networks.

    If someone is going to cut your line, they’ll cut your line regardless of where it’s coming in.
