Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon Dublin 2019

Have to have a rant...waited 30 mins for a shuttle bus in Phoenix Park to arrive. When it did arrive at 710am I got to the start for 740am, dropped bag off to find that there were about a total of 10 portaloos available. Meant queuing and missing the start or just getting in with it. Resulted in a pit stop in KJH and lost time. Course was tough but enjoyable. Really thinking of not entering next year as they continually have issues at the start which is a shame as the bands were great again this year along the route.

Did the 10k this morning. Kinda funny that as the leading half marathoners were finishing we were just heading off. The merging of the 10k and the half worked well but it must have been very annoying for the half marathoners ( the 2hr runners) to see all the fresher 10k people sailing past. However there was lot of weaving in and out round people.

Got my remix medal for doing the two races. It was quite a busy collection point so there must have been a lot of people doubling up. I had have two complaints;

1. The baggage pick for the 10k was chaos. There seemed to be no logic as to how bags were placed in sequence. You were left queuing for along time. They could look at that for next year. Staff were very friendly but were going to have a tough day.

2. Was people taking multiples of everything, as was said previously. I’m not sure what would be left for the back markers. I did a cool down and there was still a steady stream of finishers around the 3hr mark. I doubt there was many bars or Lindt left. Very selfish and ignorant behavior but I’ve seen that before at this race.

I took one Lindt. It was disappointing, not up to their usual standards.

Route was excellent. Was 5min8s quicker then last year.

Portaloos along the route cannot be underestimated when it comes to other races! I presume the really early start was to get everything cleared up in the city before the traffic built up. Decent enough race; I was lucky enough to be able to get the Luas in so didn't have to bring a bag. I heard that the bag drop would be a problem.

There was hundreds of people queuing at the zoo and parkgate street who were left standing for an hour before being collected. There should have been busses starting at these points too. I was of the park at 6.40am. We got a bus at 7.30am. Arrived at the start line at 7.55. No chance to get any sort of warm up in.

Queue for loos were insane. That whole side of Fitz Square needed to be lined with portaloos.


The race series 10k a few weeks ago had none of these issues. If they are organised right it's simple. The Irish Runner 10 mile the same. None of this nonsense that always exists with RnR. And your paying far more for the race number

Oh I know yeah, just last year they had it both days.

I was more so wondering is there a law that says it has to be non-alcoholic for Irish races?

The start/finish at different locations is very annoying, the shuttle just took the people back to the entrance of Phoenix park, my car was miles away...
