Also not forgetting Steve Haze leaving 96FM Cork for Dublin "has been appointed to a new Wireless Ireland Group Music Scheduling role"

He first came to Cork in the mid-1980s on the pirate station ERI when he used the name 'Steve Kelly'
    http://radiowaves.fm/ire/blog/tag/steve-kelly/

also worked for 'Sunshine 101' in Dublin, and broadcast to the UK and Ireland on Atlantic 252 (as 'Hollywood Haze')

ALSO Sean Donnellon (AKA Sean Donlan) has officially retired from C103, he received many tributes from Irish country music stars (in the last hour of the 'Cork Today' show last Friday) . He had been off the air since earlier this year since the so-called 'cocooning'. He had been with the station from the very start (when it was County Sound 103FM), been on the air weeknights with his mainly country music show for many years (1990-2017), then in recent years was on Sundays 10am-2pm.

Whilst traveling last night (Wednesday) happened to come across Radio Kerry, and the presenter , musician Dermot Moriarty (doing his country music show) was giving a tribute to Sean Donnellon/Donlan, saying he had done a lot to promote Irish country music acts over the years. So tributes to him from other stations on his retirement from C103

96FM now hiring a new presenter for Steve's "Hit Mix" show 8pm-12am weekdays. Interestingly it says that the show will also be networked with Live95 in Limerick. Live95's Hit Mix show is missing a presenter after JP Dillon moved to afternoon's to replace Declan Copues.

Tbh it's a wonder why both stations don't just switch to Rob O'Jock overnight music mode from 8pm. I can't imagine that there is any demand nowadays for an evening show called " The Hitmix"

Ken Tobin appeared at the end of 96FM's Opinion Line on Christmas Eve to speak about his change of role to PJ Coogan. Both, it was recalled, had a similar start in pirate radio in the 1980s on the same station, Radio Caroline Cork, broadcasting from a caravan, which was on air in the early-mid-1980s.

Ken was originally DJ name 'Steve Davis' , here is how he sounded DJing on that station in 1985:

perhaps using the same name as the well-known snooker player must not have been seen as a good idea!? as he later became known as Steve O'Neill

    on 'WBEN' in 1987:
    http://dxarchive.com/downloads/irish/cork/1987_02_20_wben_cork_98fm_1715-1800_steve_oneil_ib.mp3
(another 96FM voice heard on the above - on some of the ads - is Rob Allen)

and by 1988 had moved to the big one, ERI:
    http://dxarchive.com/downloads/irish/cork/1988_08_02_tue_eri_97.7fm_0735-0905_steve_oneil_gh.mp3
    http://dxarchive.com/downloads/irish/cork/1988_08_03_wed_eri_977fm_1012-1126_steveoneil-gh665.mp3

He was first to do a show from 96FM's current location when the move of premises happened in the 1990s (and joked but the building didn't get named after him).

and Simon Murdoch originally came to the fore as 'DJ Si' on Kiss FM 106.5 in Cork in the mid-2000s - before some weekend work on 96FM, and then broadcasting to a large chunk of Ireland for a number of years on iRadio

best of luck to both starting in their new roles on C103 and 96FM next Monday the 4th of Jan

But they aren't really! More like they have to advertise it.

It will be networked from FM104 to 96 and Live 95.

Ken Tobin is now due to start on C103 breakfast show tomorrow Monday (25th Jan). Mark Malone had been filling in for the past few weeks.

On air now on Corks 96/Live 95, presented by Shane Bucks. All the links I’ve heard tonight (mostly quick links too) have just mentioned the Hit Mix, no station name mentioned. The imaging is split though. The playlist sounds oriented towards a younger audience than the general station playlist too.

This is just the start of how radio will be in Ireland..

Given how successful it has been in the UK for both listenership and profits, you are likely right.

99% of listeners don’t care whether the fella pressing play on Dermot Kennedy’s new record is in Cork or Limerick same way the UK listeners don’t care if he’s in Liverpool or London.
