Teaching license required

    Considering teaching English in Saudi Arabia, but I notice a teaching license i required.

    I plan on doing the CELTA soon, regardless.

    Do you know if CELTA is considered a license to teach OR is a license to teach only something teachers are awarded after studying education as an undergraduate.

    Note: My undergraduate degree was a BEng. in Electronic Engineering

    It basically means you need to a qualified teacher in your home country. A 'Teaching licence' refers to the teacher qualification in the US, the equivalent in Ireland being a PGDE/PME (or whatever they're called now), PGCE in the UK etc.

    So a CELTA unfortunately falls far short in this regard. Some schools/institutions in Saudi may accept a degree and a CELTA to teach ESL, though even then I believe they're generally one of the stricter countries and often want a Masters in TESOL or related. Having said that, they simply cannot find enough teachers who want to work there so no harm in applying anyway if you don't mind teaching ESL. If you wanted to be a subject teacher in a secondary school might be a bit more difficult.
