Due to school closures our school is posting activities on Seesaw. The children brought home no books so we have to source our own work for the children (3rd class). The principal suggests they spend 2-3 hours daily which I think is a bit excessive as you'd want lots of revision worksheets. Just wondering any ideas for activities or other websites other than Twinkl to get ideas/resources?

Its not revision but new learning. Maybe buy the books if your kids didn’t bring theirs home . You dont want them to fall behind everyone else in their class- they need to keep up.

Sounds like OP is the teacher. I’d search for as many practical activities as possible and provide these to parents in a list. Reams of worksheets will get very boring very quickly at home and be a source of stress for all involved.
For the love of god don’t be advising parents to re-buy the books. Most publishers are making them available online for free if u google the publishing companies. There are also a wealth of teachers posting ideas and resources on Instagram if u look there.

Sorry yes - I note that s/he is a primary school teacher. Somewhat worrying all of this.

CJFallon, EDCO and Folens have made their books free to access online for all parents/students. That'd be the best and easiest route if your principal is insistent on new work being done. Thankfully our principal has reiterated that we should be assigning revision work and practical tasks for our classes rather than new work which might have to be something to look into for after Easter. I think it is crazy that so many teachers have made this huge shove for primary children to be knee deep in new content at this time. Much bigger priorities out there and parents have much more important matters at hand.

They are only in third class for God's sake. Get them to practice their sums, go on a shape hunt around the house, do a bit of report writing on a favourite topic of theirs, do some art work to do with having good personal hygiene, write a letter/card to their grandparents whom they cannot visit, play some board games, read books to their younger siblings, build using playing cards and lego, make sock puppets, help Mam and Dad making the shopping lists, plenty of GoNoodle and exercise. I'd be seriously questioning the cop on of a principal if they were not happy with those sort of jobs for now.

You need to liaise with the rest of your staff and agree a common policy .

you’re not being paid to skive - but to teach. Parents have enough to be doing other than making up work for their children - teach up.

The OP is saying the children went home with empty bags a couple of weeks ago. She’s looking for resources that will be available that she can guide parents towards, it’s not her fault they didn’t bring their stuff home.

Loads of resources being shared through teacher groups on FB, but unless there is a staff consensus on what format the work will take , suggestions aren’t much use .
You also need to consider what the objectives behind each task is - do they fit in with your termly plan , have you differentiations built in for children who need them and what way you can oversee the work being done .

We have broken our staff into WhatsApp groups to sort with for next week , infants / 1st and 2nd/ 3rd and 4th/ 5th and 6th and SEN . Principal is a member of each group. We spent a lot of time yesterday and today deciding what system to use and to ensure collaborative planning .
Work will go home through Aladdin on Friday.
