Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Claiming UK vat back

    Hi, has anyone managed to claim uk vat back on a bike they imported? I'm looking at importing a very low miles suzuki van van learner bike but as the miles are so low I'd be due to pay vat on it. Any advice welcome

    Is it from a dealer or private? A dealer should be able to sell VAT free for export. If private there's a form you send back to the UK after you pay the VAT here, though I can't see it being processed quickly especially since they have left the EU.

    It's a dealer but bike is not new, twas regs in 2015.

    For the purposes of import in to the state , its New until it's six months old and has 6000 km on clocks.

    You will need a VAT invoice from the seller, and once you pay it here the dealer can actually refund it to you.

    Option B: Buy a damaged Speedo and say the reason the Speedo on the bike reads so low is that it was replaced after an accident.

    But I'm not sure if the VRT guys would check MOT records to verify the mileage, like if the bike was only MOT'd on the week you are buying it and obviously the mileage was recorded and the VRT guys checked then it would be unlikely (but not impossible) to justify 7 thou miles in a shortish timeframe.
