Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The human embodiment of cool

So in this world of fake nobody "celebrities" who are famous for no apparently good reason whatsoever, who, alive or dead, is too cool for school?

Taking into account we don't know these people and we can only go by the persona they project to the world.

My number one would have to be David Bowie, just oozed charisma and coolness. Something almost extra human about him, almost like you wouldn't be surprised to hear he was an alien from another planet.

Coolness to me is about generally restraining emotions, keeping ones head, dressed well, having great moves, comfortable alone and having great come backs.

I love Bowie but wouldn't see him as cool, due to some of his expressiveness.

James Dean smoking a cigarette, Martin sheen in badlands and Mickey Rourke in rumble fish. Cool. Jimi Hendrix is nearly cool but again his hippie/ drug stuff means he's not cool.

Bowie certainly exuded pure coolness - always a step or two ahead of the rest in terms of his image and music. The master of re-invention.

Bryan Ferry of Roxy Music - a contemporary of Bowie, always cool and sublime.

Patti Smith, the “godmother” of punk - always did her own thing, seemed to eschew chart success in terms of her music. Never compromised. That image of her on the cover of her 1975 Horses album is iconic and was very ahead of its time.

Debbie Harry of Blondie - in the limelight in the late 70s/early 80s but seemed to be able to keep her private life just that - private. Sassy. Stunning looking in her prime and had a touch of class.

Grace Jones - another utterly original musician who did her own thing and was part of the 1970s/1980s zeitgeist of cool.

The Eurythmics - Annie Lennox in particular. Her androgynous look in the Sweet Dreams video in 1983 helped define the look of that decade. Incredible soulful voice and one half of the finest pop act of the 80s.

Andy Warhol - Pop artist extraordainre working out of New York in the 1960s and 1970s. Probably rather overrated, but growing up he seemed a pretty cool individual.

    Honorable mentions to:
    Tom Waits
    Lou Reed
    Portishead
    Alison Goldfrapp
    Bob Dylan
    Kraftwerk
    Leonard Cohen
    Kate Bush

You are not cool if you are famous just for being on social media, instagram,or making a sex video
    etc
You are cool if you make interesting creative work whether its art, music ,video, writing ,making games .
trolling, insulting random people on facebook ,etc is not cool,
being on facebook is not cool.
Bowie was cool because he was constantly changing ,making new music,
it was not always good but it was different from most other singers.
i dont follow anyone on tik tok,
but there are people who are really creative and funny there ,
and there are people on there who are amazing dancers or comedians .
TIK TOK is very popular because it provides video and audio tools that can be used by anyone to make amazing videos that are entertaining .
I Think lady gaga is cool because she is talented and she keeps making
    new music ,
she is original ,she is not trying to copy anyone else or just follow the latest trend .a talented singer or writer will create works that still
will be listened too in 10 or 20 years .
how many singers have 1 or 2 hit songs and then just disappear .
i don,t see taylor swift or beyonce making ads for apple or coke
because they are not sell outs .

Just to add some women to the mix, although I agree with lots of the aforementioned esp people like Tom Waits. Jeff Bridges if he has not been mentioned..It is funny though how we think first of men when it comes to cool.
    Chrissie Hynes.
    Nina Simone.
    Ruthie Foster.
    Alison Moyet.
    Tilda Swinton.
    Judi Dench.
    Helen Mirren.
    Joanna Lumley.
Maria Doyle Kennedy is a person I have long thought of as cool
    Aayan Hirsi Ali.
    Camilla Paglia.
    Loads more.

Had the pleasure of meeting Leonard Cohen once. A gentleman to his fingertips. He had played a legendary gig in Kilmainham Castle a few years previously and we discussed how the gig had received cult status. He had just come off a long haul flight and was impeccably dressed in a 3 piece suit. That's even before his song writing is considered..

Thanks to Pulp fiction he is the coolest man on the planet. The thing is when hes in a weak film he still gets a pass due to how cool he was in
