Anyone come across the word fen at the end of a persons name? Peter La Touche, fen. for example.
What does fen mean? I have seen other examples of names with fen attached.

Where an when was this recorded?

Was it an archaic abbreviation of an occupation, or was it in a parish / civil register?

If it was an ancient register, I suspect it might be a misreading of a long S, in other words an abbreviation of senior.

I have come across its use in the 1800's but I think you are right. F was used in place of S so senior makes sense.
    Thanks.
