Hi parents of Boards.ie! Paula here again, from TheJournal.ie’s weekly Family Magazine.

Some of you may have seen my threads recently looking for activity suggestions for kids around Ireland. Your responses appeared in two of our recent family event guides, which you can see here and here.

We'd love to keep featuring your tips and thoughts, so each week I'll post another Boards.ie thread asking you guys for your recommendations for things to do with kids, with a new question each week.

The best responses will be featured in TheJournal.ie’s Family Magazine, published every Wednesday. We’ll include usernames next to each contribution, so just let me know if you’d rather yours not be included.

Where are the best *free* days out for kids in Munster? Where's the best place to head?

Hi Paula, I'm seeing no replies. maybe its my phone so I'm sorry if I repeat what a previous poster has mentioned. Anyway as a mam of two I find every midterm/ holiday is a money spin. We like to get out doors when possible. Anything free is a god send. So heres my fav. The Waterford Greenway. It can be accessed from several different points and each one is a new experience. We're living in the city and theres a few handy starting points for us. We've walked, cycled and scooted the whole length at different times. Great to see in all weathers. We have our own bikes but we've even rented a tandom from one of the bike rentals en route. That was great fun. We'd highly recommend it. Heres the link

Definitely doneraile, it’s fab. Curraghchase park in limerick is also a great spot.

The Forest Park sounds great, what kinds of things are on offer there for kids?

Glucksman gallery in UCC have a free kids art workshop on Sundays (at 3 i think)
Lots of cutting and glueing to be had.
My kids love it

Other good free stuff in Cork:
Ballincollig Regional park is a great safe amenity

There are several places to rent the bikes. ( Although it makes it not free)

For me Fitzgeralds park and museum - picnic,chill out,wallk, listen to music - it just grab a coffee and watch Cork style pass you by

If you don't want to rent bikes, the part of the greenway that seems to appeal to kids most is the tunnel near Durrow, which could be walked. Then off to Clonea beach for sandcastles and icecream after.
