I would say stay local, like dentistry it is worth the extra money. I saw a documentary on RTE about the guy in the Blackrock clinic. It takes 3 afternoons over a 9 month period. He cuts a slice from the back of your head (under local anesthetic) divides it into hundreds of hairs with roots and puts/sort of injects them in over the bald areas, he waits three months to see how it they are growing ( the direction and thickness and shading and then does it again using the same thin scar line at the back of the head ( the place which never goes bald), waits another 3 months and does a final touch up. The result is a gradual reappearance of hair. So go down to your credit union and save up, then get the loan.

Only one solution €10,000 + Blackrock clinic = happiness for the young guy.

Never understood this tbh, I shaved my head at 18 with little hysteria. I know a shaved head doesn't suit everyone but anyone who lets it make them miserable needs to harden up a bit.

Usually I despise that statement but if ever there was a scenario where it's relevant it's here. €10,000 on hair restoration, ****ing hell.

Going bald, don't suit a shaved head but not a fecking chance would I spend that money on a transplant. Fecking hell.

Brush what hair you have left over the bald patch

    No.

    Genetics make men go bald.

Not necessarily, prolonged used of tight fitting headgear will cause hair to fall out ( Tina Turner - tight wigs made her go bald), it should grow back again. Stress and prolonged use of harsh chemicals ( peroxide) will damage hair and cause baldness especially in women. And of course certain types of chemotheraphy.

Hi, Fellow Baldy locks here. My advice would be to shave it off. I was going bald at 17 and finally shaved when I was 19. I had support from my friends, they told me plainly that my hair looked stupid, and it did. My friends said they would shave their heads if I shaved mine, 13 bald heads later I sat down on the chair and got what was left, off. It felt great and after a while I got a lot more confidence from the shaved look. I shave in the shower now with a mach3 and would advise to get into the habit of moisturising with stuff that has an SPF of 15+ to avoid getting the sun spots/freckles on top.

Is having a shaved head such a big deal that you need "support from friends"? What is it about it? Are people afraid of the look or something?

I've never heard of anyone having to get the support of their friends shaving their too unless it was like a woman who was losing it due to cancer or something.

Maybe support is the wrong word. They basically just shaved their heads and it gave me the confidence to go through with it. Shaving yer head and knowing that the hair isn't coming back was a bit daunting. It's silly when I look back on it now, but at the time going bald was a stressful event. Oh and there was quite a bit of alcohol involved in the mass head shave. good times!

I feel your pain OP and others currently balding out there.

Nearly 25 myself and the last few months the balding has started to pick up tenfold.

What's worse is that I can grow a beard down to my knees and hair seems to be growing everywhere else bar my head ha.

Best I can recommend is just get tight haircuts if you don't want to shave it all off.

Thankfully my girlfriend doesn't mind the balding but she does give me a good slagging over it!

Twas a big thing for me in my 20's the thought of going bald.

Now I'm 30 I've got a very very slowly receding hairline. Nothing at all to be worried about but I've noticed it none the less and what I have really coped onto is the fact I now couldn't care less about going bald. There's nothing bar getting hair implants you can do so why worry about?

Worry about things you can affect and forget about the things you can't would be my advice

Talking about clinics, i know Ailesbury Clinic do something similar to the procedures thats are carried out in Blackrock. My hair for the last 5 years has undergone some bad shedding and thinning (work, stress, you know the usual....), so much so that a few of my friends jokingly referred that the level of shedding that is taking place will result in me looking like Worf out of Star Trek. Now if my noggin was in good shape , i would shave it, but i've so much bumps and scars and uneveness on the crown, that it just wouldnt look suitable and I wouldnt like it

The reason i mentioned The Ailesbury Clinic, is a few months back, i was getting my hair cut in a well known Dublin City barbers and was mentioning to the barber what way i wanted my hair cut. I pointed out the inevitable on top of the head and he told me the story of another head barber, who's hair was in worse condition than mine, went to the Ailesbury Clinic, got the hair transplant procedure and managed to get his hair back to 90% thickness, even thicker than the bloke who was cutting my hair (youngish chap). He said that the barbers hair just took about a year for the full composition of hair to regrow. This sort of gave me renewed confidence, so made an appointment in January with Ailesbury clinic, to see what procedures are on offer, i'll keep youse informed if anything develops..........:D

Jaysus, I am not happy about going bald, but if I would have spare 10k eu, the baldness issue would be the last on my mind!

    I'd normally agree.

My friend had the procedure as you described above about 5 years ago (in Ireland). This procedure is apparently now out of date, the procedure is now to extract the follicle straight from the head (without cutting the skin/leaving a scar).

He is very happy with experience over in Turkey and the results so far.

Shave your head and grow a wood cutters beard.

You won't be to everyone's taste, but you will be a niche market. That's how you get the best rides

im amazed at how many guys underestimate how many girls love a shaved head. its not the 1920's. there is no longer a stigma associated with baldness imo. from Yul Brynner and Kojak right through to Bruce willis and Jason statham etc...its now regarded in popular culture as a pretty cool and tough look to have.

And what if you are wimp and look more like Ghandi than John McClane?

Thats why some people freak when they go bald. If you have always had very short hair and even shaved, you know what you look like without hair and it most likely suits you well, and won't be that arsed when it starts falling out.

Well, walked in home after work. Grabbed my slippers and clippers. Gave a fresh trim on zero and touched up my beard. Off to shower and other things.
Since I went shaved I am giving more attention to my "hair" in last week, then I ever did in the last 7 years lol. :D

As it happens, I took the decision last night to go with a two blade for my next haircut. I've been receding for some time, so thinking I might as well see how bad the damage is. I can the decide whether to go shaved head or continue painstakingly styling existing hair into place. I have a weird shaped head, so here's hoping I dont end up looking like Sloth from the Goonies. Wish me luck

Well, I just looked up a few YouTube videos of people doing their own hair with clippers. Tried safe short cut, which I did not liked and then just YOLOed it with zero. Loving it ever since. So try safe first too. The worst that can happen is that you will have a bald head until it grows back. Just get a hat in advance, it's not for looks, its freaking cold! :D

Id shave it if it was me! Im not goin bald but started goin grey at 18/19 im 35 now, use to get piss taken out of me no end and lads saying to dye it and all that, but I never was that bothered about it.

It suits me now and I get haircuts that suit my head shape and style which is v important some lads get haircuts that dont suit them at all and look stupid which is worse than bald or grey. To be honest I never had any problems with women finding fault with my hair and the same for bald lads I know to, I even have heard a lot of ladies say they love the bald look or the George Clooney haha.

I love it when it's just been shaved. I usually do it for the OH. Plenty of comedy moments - we've had the friar tuck, the Mohican, the Brazilian plus plenty of boobs in face etc.

But what really gets me going is rubbing his head - especially grabbing that chubby bit at the back - it's like a Bulldogs neck - all soft yet bristly. Grrrr.

Uh, this thread is bumped up!

Well, I am still shaving my head with Zero number every 3 days and LOVING my Baldy head. 2 changes that I did though:

    1. Decided to still grow a nice beard.
    2. Got myself a Russian "ushanka" hat. Actually... I bought 2 of them and waiting for third one to be delivered from amazon! :pac:

Its few weeks in now and hair growing back is what annoys me, not the hair that I lost/losing! :pac:. Shaving it off is one of the best things I did! I do need hats in winter though, but I see it now as positive lol. I got in to "ushanka" hat fashion big time :D

The ushanka hat is one thing, just wait until you start dressing like Tommy Shelby off Peaky Blinders...

Ive a receding hairline at nearly 28. I joke about it with the lads in work and we all joke how none of us are in a position to pass comment as fecking all of us have the hair receding fiercely.

think its more common nowadays for people to just shave their head. i still getting away we just a 2 all over and prefer the short hair. Dont know how guys spend so much time maintaining a hairstyle and too damn uncomfortable in the summer.

If its not already been mention, there is he wayne rooney option where you get some hair restoration work.

This man can pull off the loose hair style

If it hasn't been mentioned already go to your GP and get a prescription for proscar (finasteride). It's generic now so about 20 quid for 3 months supply. It works well at keeping what you have but you won't get much regrowth also it's not effective for everyone and th one that is effective for everyone is way more expensive, can't think of the name of it right now.

There's another one as well called Durastride but I don't think you can get that here. Good site here showing two twins with MPB, one took Finasteride/Durastride, the other didn't.

Not good at all, you'll have to keep it shaved. Hopefully you still have colour in the hair, the big problem for Caucasians is that they tend to lose the tone at a young age, around the 30 mark on average. Blacks and Slopes hold the tone for longer for some reason (sometimes into the late 40s or 50s), the differences between the races I suppose.

    Slopes?

Educate us regarding the balding patterns of the Spicks, Coons, Sand-wogs and Towel-heads while you're at it oh wise one.

Then again, I finally got out to cork city to do some cloth shopping as I haven't done that in 2 years. I was a bit confused about 95% males that I sow... Aither there is a surge of homosexual men in cork ( which I don't have any issue with) or new fashion is very... Weird...

Those are just going to lead to disappointment. They will have no more than a negligible effect.

If you can afford a transplant or more likely 2 or 3 transplants then go for it. Besides that psychologically coming to terms with your lack of hair is the most important thing imo. Keeping it short or shaved is the way forward for most men who go bald.

Wouldn't worry about it, no pubes makes your willy look bigger

Does that mean no hair will make his head look bigger? You basically knocking the lads confidence.
