Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

He might be decent at lyrics, but he has always put money first.
Some may have thought he might appear at the award ceremony due to the amount of time he was publicly given.
Many knew he would not. There is not a lot of (if any) money involved in it.
Bob likes money on top of money. To make the prize more appealing, they should have covered it in money.

    https://www.nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/literature/laureates/2016/dylan-speech.html
I never really cared either way about the idea of the Noble prizes but Bob has surely solidified any thoughts that they are worthless.
And he is imo probably correct.
He suffered being awarded it under the public eye, took weeks to acknowledge it, and let's face it, did not accept it.
Poor Bob. I do not know what I would do if i was in the same situation.

A truly scathing criticism of one of the most commercially successful musicians of all time.

For some reason I assumed this was about Bob Geldof and nearly pissed meself laughing at the description of him being decent at lyrics.

As for Bob Dylan - he owes these people nothing.

You'd get a Nobel Prize these days for rescuing a cat from a tree. Maybe the guy was embarrassed to turn up.

Even Bob knew it was a stupid decision. So he stayed away in embarrassment for the Nobel Committee.

He should have performed a Nobel Prize song and performed it.

Nobel invented dynamite, safer than nitroglycerin.
The only thing that rhymes with it is whispering.
Nobel invented gelignite, safer than dynamite
    Something, something midnight and candelight.
And then ballistite, a predecessor of cordite.
    Rhymes with stalactite and airtight.

It's laughable people critiquing him for ignoring something he has no interest in accepting. Should he be forced to recognise or accept awards now? For what reason? Why do people think he is rude or ignorant for not accepting it? Does he have no say in his life and what he chooses to do?

Irish begrudgery? They probably think that Michael D. Hobbit should have got it.

It's not beyond the realm of possibility that he just wasn't interested and didn't fancy traipsing to Sweden in his advanced years to collect it. The reaction of some of the awarding committee when he hadn't acknowledged the award tells me it was more about them than Bob Dylan and not forgetting they handed one to Barack Obama even before he took office.

Maybe he is tired of hearing how great everything is in Sweden and the 'Swedish / Nordic model'? Maybe he is taking a stance against the islamification of Sweden? Maybe he thinks Political Correctness has gone mad in Sweden?

Maybe he thought Hilary should have gotten the nod? (Only kidding, can't see anyone sane thinking that.)

He's an utterly ignorant arsehole, consistently so. End of.

    Article on point.

    https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2015/sep/13/night-bob-dylan-abandoned-me-at-petrol-station
So in due course Bob Dylan arrives and when he sees there is a stranger, an infidel who he isn’t expecting, a look of panic sweeps over him and he pulls the toggles on this hoodie he is wearing over his bushy hair, so that all that is left is this small hole.

He then proceeds to eat the Mexican food we were having through this little hole, so that by the end of the meal the salsa and guacamole is smeared round the hood. I could hear him speaking in that inimitable Bob Dylan voice, but could not see him. At one point he started playing a little children’s keyboard and sang an old gospel song. I can’t think of a more searingly surreal moment in my life!

Eventually, after a few hours, Bob leaves, still with the hood round his face. As we sat there digesting the experience there was a knock on the door. I answered and there is Dylan standing there now with his hood off. He says, “I’ve got no gas in my truck. Could someone come with me to a gas station?” Given the attention of fans, he wouldn’t fill his own tank.
We eventually pull into this gas station, and now it’s about one in the morning. He gives me his credit card (I didn’t check if it said Robert Zimmerman), I swipe it at the pump, fill up the gas, and, as I am about to get back in the truck, he says: “No man, I gotta go, I got to go.” He pulls the door shut on me and then drives off down the road, leaving me on my own on the forecourt.

I hadn’t a cent in my pocket. Nothing. I had to ring my host call collect – this was before mobiles – and get him to pick me up. I even had to ask the gas station cashier where I was, because I’d never been to LA before.

    Yeah, That is laughable./
How the F*ck do you think Bob earned his money? Why does he choose the price and why (FOR THE LOVE OF LISTENING..... WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY)
If he is playing the game, then play it. Do not pretend that he has some sort of values. He sold them a long time ago.
The laughable thing is the people that defend him as though he is some sort of person that deserves to be protected.

"Why does he choose the price?"
    He sold his values????

This is the same Bob Dylan that when on the brink on becoming very very famous and very very rich refused to appear on the biggest TV show in the USA (Ed Sullivan Show) because they wanted to censor him?

This is the same Bob Dylan who gave all royalties from his Christmas album to charities?

Speaking from personal experience I presume?

Yes, actually. I went to see Dylan in Pearse Stadium in 2004 and the guy was devoid of any human niceties. Gruff. Miserable. Even if he said 'As you all know I'm a miserable soul so please have the forbearance to accept my flaws' we could laugh. Nothing, though. No interaction. If Leonard Cohen, a far more talented songwriter in my view, can make everybody laugh about his misery and drug abuse, there's no reason Dylan has to be ignorant. Dylan just cannot seem to rise above his misery.

It was little Paddy Casey, playing support, who was a far more entertaining character at that Bob Dylan concert. And a much better singer.

Without sending all the Dylanites into heart failure, I'll say it: Bob Dylan cannot sing. I mean the Bob Dylan I heard that day, not the one on a recording in 1964. He has a horrendous voice. It should be false advertising to play his 1960s voice to advertise his modern-day concerts.

PS: Another ignorant yoke is Paul Simon, no matter how much talent he too is reputed to have. The Simon & Garfunkel concert I went to in the RDS about the same time was a cringefest of ignorance, as if he hated Garfunkel. Garfunkel had a nicer way about him.

A load of nonsense. Just because he writes, performs and sells music doesn't make him a slave to peoples ideals or morals and certainly doesn't mean he has to be a performing seal for peoples expectations.

You know what happened when they didn't get such guarantees? All of their elected officals were murdered. There need to be compromises in order to ensure peace.

Anyway, the people most affected by the war overwhelmingly voted for peace, so this is a case where city dwellers right to democracy can **** right off as far as I'm concerned.

    Bob Dylan is a genius

Geniuses don't behave like your average joe, they're wired in the brain differently they think sideways..thats why they're geniuses

e.g. John Lennon, Peter Sellars, Andy Warhol, Francis Bacon etc etc....they're all eccentric with many failings but you have to accept them like that, that what makes them remarkable
