Hairdressing certs

I am looking to switch careers, and go into hairdressing. I have a previous licence in nails from America, but it is non-transferable, so I am basically starting from scratch. I live in Leitrim, so my options are limited.

As I see it, my options are 1. Fast track course with a certificate at the end (pricey). 2. Uni for 2 yrs. or 3. Private school (Grafters academy) with experience but no cert (quick and inexpensive).

I have a natural talent and am considering grafters academy, but am concerned if I walk into a salon for a job with no cert, they won’t give me the time of day.

So, is it about what you can do, or what paperwork you have?

Would love to hear a salon owners opinion.

Yours is a kind of word of mouth business with repeat customers.

You could offer your services for free to a local salon for a couple of weekends. Let them see your work and assess the demand.
Maybe rent a spot off them after that?
