Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    I assume it's this guy...

    http://www.independent.ie/national-news/larry-murphy-1460202.html

    From 2008
CARPENTER Larry Murphy (43) was a married father-of-two when he set out to rape and murder a businesswoman in February 2000. Born in Baltinglass, Co Wicklow, he had never come to the attention of gardai before.

He had a keen interest in hunting and used his knowledge of remote areas when carrying out the savage attack.

Murphy stalked his prey for a month before kidnapping her in Carlow. He broke her nose and gagged her before bundling her into the boot of his Fiat Punto. He drove 13km to Beaconstown, where he had hunting rights, undressed her and raped her.

Afterwards, he told her he was married and the names of his two young children and that he would bring her home.

But instead, he put his victim back in the boot and drove up the Wicklow Mountains where he raped her three more times.

When she tried to escape, Murphy pulled a plastic bag over her head. He fled when he was disturbed by two fox hunters, and was quickly traced by gardai. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Murphy was later questioned about the disappearance of several other women in Leinster, but denied responsibility.

Can't find anything about him being released though.

The OP gave nothing but just a name I searched and found out

Surely he would be tagged or something and monitored for the rest of his life
They cant just let him out and be free to do what he wants can they They have to have some measures in place surely

Then again this is Ireland probably not

I believe, according to a news report I read months ago, there'll be 8 cops assigned to watch him 24 hours.

Make that 32 cops according to this.

Seems excessive, even by his standards.

12 according to this. Take your pick.

Not tagged for life, he got a 14 year sentance with 25% off for good behaviour I believe. In a few years that sentance will be complete, you can't tag someone when they've served their time
    BluesBerry wrote: »

The gardaí will certainly be tracking him and are excellent at doing this.
What will harm their case is hysterical neighbours running him out of every area and tabloids doing the same.
Then he disappears and that's when the danger is.

If the gardai know his location and signs on weekly they'll be monitoring him.

    omg! yeah he is!

Thing is though, the bro is saying what a lot of people are thinking - well he must have had a hand in the other disappearances if none have happened since he went inside.

That's pretty dumb logic imo though cause say if I had killed the other girls and say Larry taking the rap for them, I think I would cool off on my killing spree while he was inside too.

Then again, that's the mind of someone who is not addicted to murder, maybe one who is that way inclined may not be able to do that.

It'll be fairly easy for the Gardai to pin crimes on him if he reoffends.. the downside to that it won't be until after somebody else has suffered.

What should they do? It's easy to say he should be kept in prison for life, or murdered by the state but those things are fantasies/nightmares as far as the law is concerned

Well whatever way you want to dress it up, it isn't possible under current legislation.

Do you lobby for the reintroduction of the death-penalty, or just wait until stories emerge in which you can demonstrate your preference on the matter?

yes i support death penalty for predatory sex offenders/killers just like him. they cant be cured or rehabilitaed or even feel remorse.

If they can't change, they're essentially blameless, since their behaviour is completely out of their control. That's a pretty dangerous distinction to make.

What about fitting him with a chip as part of an extensive monitoring arrangement ? Rig it so it only activates if he gone on erection.
That way there's minimal cost to the tax payer and the Guards need only respond to activations. Very cost effective !

Girl underlined was found. I know this as I live on the same road as her. She is alive so I don't know what that has to do with anything.

Girl in bold also lived on my road. I was childhood friends with both girls actually, before any of Lynettes heroin stuff. She was killed, yes, but although I can't speak for anyone at all on this - I think there were other things suspected in this particular case.

    Did a quick search:
A 42-year-old man from Co Louth has been convicted in the Central Criminal Court of the murder of German tourist Bettina Poeschel in October 2001.

Michael Murphy, of Rathmullen Park, Drogheda, had already served a 12-year sentence for the manslaughter of another woman.
