Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Why is the state supporting the children of 37,000 people?

    Opfp is recieved by 12, 800 and JTB by 4,700 people. For every one parent there's another, making the total of 37,000 people getting handouts to raise their children as a lone parent. What's the deal?

    I'd think only one parent can claim the lone parent allowance or else they're not lone parents

    I'll take the correction on the 35,000. But they are all benefitting. Half of them getting handouts in cash, the other half benefitting by not having to pay the cash.

    What is the reason for 35,000 people having children with unsuitable partners?

    The most up to date information on the One Parent Family Payment (OFP) and Jobseeker’s Transition Payment (JST) since the recent OFP reforms (as of 30th September 2015):

    42,104 people are now receiving the One-Parent Family Payment. This has decreased from 92,326 in 2010, before the reforms were announced.
    There are now 75,202 child dependents of One-Parent Family Payment recipients.
    There are currently approximately 16,000 Jobseeker’s Transition recipients in total.
    Of the approximately 25,500 customers who exited the OFP scheme on 2 July, 2015, the majority of customers transitioned to the Jobseeker’s Transitional payment, the Jobseeker’s Allowance payment and the Family Income Supplement. – 13,600 (or 54%) of them moved to the Jobseeker’s Transitional Payment (JST); – 2,500 (or 10%) of them moved to the Jobseeker’s Allowance (JA) scheme, and – 8,100 (or 32%) of them moved to the Family Income Supplement (FIS) scheme

    If the father had children with more than one woman then there's less men than women and that'll bring your numbers down more

    Also if a mother had 3 kids it's a 1 parent family but there could be 3 baby daddies so that would be 3 to that 1, making the grand total of 4

    You're the first poster to mention gender. That's sexist assuming all single parents are women. 13.5% of lone parents are fathers as per 2011 census (see above post for link). If you read the first post you'll see I also included the absent parent.

    Please could you explain how this is an attack on single mothers?
