Widths and dimensions of roads

    Is there a standard unit of measurement for width of L roads National roads Secondary roads etc? Came up on a quiz we did online a bit ago and answer for L road was 3 metre width and N and S 6 metre. I’m the era of feet and inches and thought it was 9 feet and N and S 18 feet which is less than the metre equivalent.

    There are standards. Multiple even for the same category of road. There are also huge numbers of roads that don't meet those standards.

    Your quiz question setter should never have even considered such a question.

    Plenty of L roads have 3 metre carriageways both sides, so 6m. There are L road dual carriageways even.

    There are N roads with barely 6m side to side, but most that aren't dual carriageway would have more than 4m each side of the centre line, part carriageway part hard shoulder.
