Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    8 pages in, and not one mention of the greatest live album ever made ;

    Made in Japan, Deep Purple.

'Can we have everything louder than everything else...... '

Honourable mention for A trick of the tail, Genesis.

    Nothing original in my list.

    Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
    U2 - The Joshua Tree
    The Stone Roses
Whipping Boy - Heartworm (this is a masterpiece and Ferghal McKees lyrics should be on the leaving cert poetry curriculum)
    Oasis - Definitely Maybe
    Oasis - Morning Glory
    Guns'n'Roses - Appetite for Destruction

I'm going to cheeky and throw in a CD single of Some Might Say which contained "B sides" Talk Tonight, Acquiesce and Head Shrinker. Actually, there was an album of Oasis B Sides realeased at some stage. Arguably could be included.

This thread has truely been railroaded by "people's favourite albums". There are few albums available whereby every track is a classic. It's like putting on a CD and not knowing which song to pick cause every one of them is so damn good. I don't know of any such album. The closest for me is Whipping Boy - Heartworm. But even at that, there's one tune I would skip.

Def Leppard - Hysteria. Seriously?? There are some nice tunes like the well-know Hysteria, Animal, Love Bites. But for me, they are more than negated by rubbish like Armageddon it, or Run Riot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,173 ✭✭✭Declan A Walsh

I listened to Black Sabbath- Sabotage (on headphones in a dark room is creepy) constantly in LC back in 1995/1996 while the rest of the lads were fighting over Oasis and Blur and basically styling their hair like they were just born.

I forgot Rainbow- Rising on my list.

There's usually a filler track or two on every album. But I suppose "filler track" is a relative term.

The albums listed below certainly have a high density of cracking tracks and are effectively "best of" s from the
artists. (Tom Waits being the exception). I could happily listen start to finish without hitting the skip button.

    Simply Red - Stars
    Def Leppard - Hysteria
Tom Petty - Full Moon Fever
Bruce Springsteen - Born in the USA
    David Gray - White Ladder
    AC/DC - Back in Black
Meatloaf - Bat out of Hell
Steely Dan -Can't buy a thrill
David Bowie - Rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust
Tom Waits - Bad as me
    U2 - Acthung baby

I don't know of any album whose every track is a classic though. Not saying they don't exist, just that I don't know one. So the closest for me is an album with no bad track (imo) and that's Doolittle by miles for me (if just talking rock; other albums of other genres).
