I agree with Warnock for a change, and when he says Leagues One and Two are the best in the world (after the Championship) he's obviously not on about the quality of the football, which is often dog sh*t, but the history and culture and heritage, which is world class. He's right about small Towns up and down the country having teams being important, and there's something special about that. Nothing special about Man City lite, or the Chelsea not quites.

Is the B teams even a serious proposition, is it not just an idea Man City float every so often. I know with a Covid bailout the Premier League might try to get some reforms introduced but not sure there are any other clubs backing B teams.

Well they have them in what was the Football League Trophy and lots of people think that's just the foot in the door. Supposedly under 23, but they have over age players too.

Strange dismissal unbeaten and 5th in the league.

Yeah very odd, 2 wins in the last 15 home games is what a couple of Salford fans I follow on Twitter are justifying it with. Uninspiring caretaker too! Presume it's only for a game and they have someone lined up. Shame for Alexander he didn't get to go to Wembley in the Trophy final that was postponed.

Only 23% possession at home, but first goal from open play and first game scoring more than one goal so far this season for Birmingham. Karanka's football style is a tough watch so far this season, very defensive performances however the defensive play is much improved so can't give too out much. Hopefully the footballing play improves over the season, but don't see us threatening the playoffs this season.

Reading running away with the Championship so far, be interesting to see if they can keep it up.

Derby beaten again..another really really poor performance, no desire or urgency.
As I have said previously this is one of the poorest Derby teams I have seen. The style they have just doesnt suit them or the available players..
I'd say the manager might ne gone soon...
    5 points, 2nd from bottom..

Big win for Northampton Town today, was a must win really, against a team as bad as we are. 3 1 win over Burton Albion. Ricky Holmes started his first game for two years after injuries, some achievement to be playing again at all.

Fisher gets a 3 match ban for violent conduct.

    Fisher had denied the charge.

Northampton beat Joey Barton's Fleetwood. About as ugly style of play you can get. Hideous, 22% possession at home. As a fan on Twitter correctly described it, Cobblers are like Bleach. It stinks but it's effective.

Brian Barry Murphy’s Rochdale beat Plymouth 4-0 away with Jimmy Keohane scoring. A great night for Cork men.

    and Gavin Bazunu....

Late equaliser for Coventry at Derby, four games unbeaten now, but not turning draws into points away from home. Important result at the bottom.

Irishman scored for the Cobblers today too actually. Cian Bolger, motm as well.

Millwall living up to their reputation. And by no means a minority given the attendance

    But, but, but the MaRxIsTs...

Anyway in further miserable day at the office for Northampton Town. Had a man sent off after 15 minutes, possession rate of 20% and lost 2 nil.

I think it's really only stadiums like Millwall and the Burleys of this world that night see this knuckle dragging type of reaction.

As Les Ferdinand QPR said in September " Taking the knee was powerful but we feel that impact has now been diluted "

    It's time to end it.

Oh and guess who QPR play next ....

Opposing a political organisation of rascist, antisemitic communists = "knuckle dragging".

Not even 8am and that's the dumbest thing I'll read all day.

Not only is it right to oppose the repugnant rebrand of the SWP, it's imperative.

I remember meeting a group of women in a nightclub in London. They were from Eltham. They told me Ireland must be great because we got no "farking monkeys" here, they farking love Milwall, "farking monkeys" are "farking everywhere" in London etc.

They are racists. I haven't heard any racism, anti Semitism or Das Kapital from footballers who kneel to oppose the mistreatment of ethnic minorities.

As David Squires cartoon today say I bet those Millwall fans and other fans who boo the taking of a knee because they see it as a Political Statement don't boooo the Political Statement being made every year forcing players to wear a Poppy.

Not a huge surprise, seems that the owner refused Pulis' request for January signings. Not sure who would go near that club in that state, maybe Paul Cook but he may hold out for a job at a more stable club.

Cobblers won 3 1 for a nice change, Irishman Alan Sheehan makes big difference to defence. Looked lot more solid tonight, and crept out of relegation zone for now.

Perfect end to 2020 for Birmingham, firmly back in another relegation battle. Typical Blues; poor manager, disjointed squad, lack of suitable formation, aging players, poor signings, and a complete lack of pace. Tough to have any optimism for the next few months, but hopefully there are 3 worse teams than us over the next few months.

Point against Sunderland yesterday is a decent result but my god it's grim what Curle is doing. He's narrowed the pitch, trains on it so it's like a ploughed field, has possession stats of less than 30% nearly every game. Woeful stuff, all to try and finish 5th bottom of League One. I've seen some dogsh*t football from Northampton over the years, Atkins and Boothroyd two hoof ball specialists, but they had the Cobblers playing like Barcelona in comparison to this puke.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

I think Brentford should get a lot of credit. After missing out on promotion last season, yet again seeing their best players move on as happens every season, they again haul themselves back into contention.

Super recruitment again by them to bring in Toney to replace Watkins. Really have an outstanding record of replacing their centre forward with Maupay and Hogan in the past. Haven't fully replaced Benrahma but not really massively impacting their promotion push yet, might tell towards the end of the season.

They didn't lose as many players as you might have expected to the PL (particularly Rico Henry and Josh Dasilva) but that is due to financial situation for a lot of the clubs. However it is the same though with Norwich, Bournemouth and Watford who have largely kept their PL squads together.

Championship as always pretty hard to call. Norwich look good for automatic, as long as they keep Buendia, but really there are about 5 or 6 other clubs who I imagine could put together a pretty good run for the other automatic spot. Then loads of teams for the playoffs, be great to see Barnsley do well with their style of play and youth in the squad.

Read a good article on their recruitment process. They hate the Moneyball comparison because they say it's far more than stats, they assess the player psychologically as well, their attitude etc. It's very interesting. When you think how they have eclipsed clubs with much more money, Derby, Forest, QPR etc. regularly in recent seasons, clearly it's working. Even having a manager with sports psychology qualifications is thinking outside the box.

I saw Bournemouths Junior Stanislas on Sky sports news, talking about only one of his twins will face racial issues. I never knew twins could be like that in a mixed race relationship. One dark haired and dark skin , one blonde haired and white skin.

Cobblers actually played pretty well today, had a go at Lincoln and played a bit of football. Lost 2 1 but scored a cracker and gives me a bit of hope.

Don't want to be disparaging about Scottish football but a player who couldn't hold down a regular place in a woeful League One team in England has been loaned to Motherwell in Scotland's top flight to get more game time! Northampton Town's Harry Smith.

Hard to call at the bottom of the Championship. Wycombe are distantly last as expected and Sheffield Wednesday are a bit behind but they are competitive.

Rotherham's 3-0 win at Middlesbrough has really opened things up. Very close between them, Derby, Forest, a collapsing Millwall and QPR/Coventry/Birmingham are only a win or so away from them.

You'd expect Derby to get away from it and Wednesday to close the gap..

Harry Redknapp taking training at Bournemouth at the request of caretaker manager Jonathan Woodgate.

How Woodgate is in this position after the mess he made at Middlesbrough is mad.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

What happened there? Okay they hit a wall but it was a bit soon to hire Woodgate as the solution!

Edit - I see David Wagner is the current favourite full time. A bit risky all thing considered.

Tisdale sacked at Bristol Rovers, Curle sacked at Northampton.

As for reason for Curle's sacking, who's a nice bloke, but....
    Northampton stats this season:

    Goals: 24th
    Possession: 22nd
    Shots: 21st
    Crosses: 23rd
    1v1 Dribbling: 23rd
Touches in oppo penalty area: 24th
    Corners for: 24th
    Corners Against: 2nd most
    Passes: 24th
