Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Ireland has a terrible food culture compared to the rest of the world. After 10pm the only places you can get food is ****ty takeaways and fast food chains. Even if you go into town most likely you will still only get takeaways. It's a joke

    There's an Indian guy working in our company who claims that he is within walking distance of more good Indian restaurants in Dublin than he was at home in Mumbai!

    Tastes vary I suppose. Sugar, salt and saturated fat tend to appeal to some people. It’s a reheat and serve operation using standard portions of meat, veg, sauce, and rice. There’s about 4.50 profit per meal excluding drinks - that’s slightly better than the Supermacs/McDonalds profit per unit serving.

    Wow, if that's true, that's a fantastic business model. Didn't think they were making anything like that per meal. You'd be insane, from a business point of view, to open any other kind of restaurant, as I'd imagine the cost/margin ratio would be nowhere near as good.

    My problem with the spice bag is that chips from the Chinese are almost always crap. You're better off getting shredded chicken, fried rice and a curry sauce.

    My local Chinese has nicer chips than any other takeaway I buy from.

    Anyway, bad chips are still > any rice.

    A Chinese/Asian restaurant in my home town won the take-away of the year with the spice bag being their no.1 seller.

    I have never been in it and have never had a spice bag from anywhere but by the power of advertising, I will be having a spice bag from Bamboo Court tonight.

    Just to update this, I had a 'spice bag' from the place that won the award, it was my first and last time having a spice bag, it was ok but nothing special and I cant see myself bothering with it again. I'll stick with my Singapore fried rice from now on.

    Or for an extra euro you could go to an independent burrito place and get a chicken box with all freshly made ingredients, not processed crap*

    * I'm just giving one example, Tucos in Galway. They prepare everything fresh that morning, use only ovens (they don't have deep fryers). Independently owned. Other chain places of similar value, not quite as nice are Boojum and Tolteca, but still deserve a mention.

    Or, make yer own pizza....

    Use a wrap as the base

    Tinned tomatos, garlic, basil, spices etc... - all into the blender until you have a nice sauce.

    Poach some chicken, 'pull' it to break it up and marinate in some spices.

    Bit of Mozeralla on top.

    In the oven for about 7 - 9 minutes.

    'Healthy' pizza. I know i'm going off topic, but made this yesterday and it was savage.

    They do a lovely Malaysian Lamb.

    I also had their spice bag and didn't think much of it, very salty, if that is the best one in Ireland then I don't know what is going on.

    there's chicken balls in Dunnes that you can buy and heat up in the oven. they don't have that layer of grease on them and make them super nice.

    Few things are guaranteed to make your eyes water like going to the jacks after cutting chillies without washing your hands first.

    It is! The best chipper chips are fried in oil without the oil impregnating the chips. The oil has to be the right temperature. Just a light coating of oil please. Greasy batter is sickening stuff.

    The poached chicken isin't gross. Well, it is when it's only poacked. Once poached, it's then pulled and mixed with plenty of herbs / spices and left to marinate (I know, marinating usually done before cooking) - Weirdly enough, if I pick a bit to eat straight from the bowl, it's nice.

    I just can't imagine being easily able to pull chicken if not poached.

    Sheet of puff pastry. Eggwash it and bake it for 5 minutes on high. Then put your toppings on. Thats another one to try.
