Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Where to watch Champions League Final in Dublin

So where do ya think the best place to watch the final will be?

Ideally need somewhere that will have a great atmosphere but will have full coverage of the build up etc. (i.e. Giles/Dunphy :D) where you can actually hear what's going on

Hate watching games in pubs where you can barely hear the commentary or worse, when they turn the volume down at half time etc....

Sinnotts at the Stephens Green SC, opposite the Gaeity.

I was there for the first Barca/Utd game, and last Sunday for the last day of the PL Season.

Crackin' atmosphere for a pub, it has to be said.

I'll be there on Wednesday too.

Three big screens, so you can see it from anywhere.

And they do have the build up on.

Either Mandela Hall in Belfast who are putting up a big screen, or The Botanic Inn also in Belfast, which is one of the greatest pubs Ive ever been in for a match. Have yet to decide.

Bit of a walk from Dublin though.

I'll be sittin on the couch with a nice toasty duvet. Could go to the local that's opening at 2am for it but damned if I'm paying $40 to watch them lot.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

    Forty bucks is a lot!

Why the fúck are they charging that much? Is it not on SBS anymore?

Ah yeah it is on SBS (probably straight after some dodgy French porno ) but the 'diehards' will want to congregate and get rat arsed so they don't have to go to work the next day. $40 gets you in and nibbles. Not even a feckin pint.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

I remember paying $25 in to watch a hurling final, but that was on Setanta.

But on a free-to-air station, forty dollars is bleedin' robbery.

What sort of clowns are paying this ffs.

Better off heading to the bottle shop, then the pie shop, then the couch imo.

    Cheaper that $40 too.

    Yeah can't beat the Outback.

I'm off at half three on Wednesday so I reckon I'll be in early to get a good table and some nice grub before the match starts.

Outback is a different pub, no?

    I'm off at 12.30 \o/

    :D

    And off Thursday!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 274 ✭✭rcs

Yeah, Woolshed is class but unless you're there really early and get a seat your screwed!

Sugar Club, leeson st. are meant to be showing it on their Cinema sized screen... but dunno wat that'd be like atmosphere wise!

Anywhere decent is gonna be packed for the match anyway so I reckon it's all about getting somewhere early & getting seats sorted out!!

Off at half 3 on Wednesday and off Thursday so ill be in pub at 4 & be home by 5......... am :D

It was rebranded Woolshed about two or three years ago, but lots of the signs inside still say Outback and if you pay with laser, your statement will say Outback on it.

What kind of question is that?

Unless there is some "Chelsea Branded" pub, I doubt it's very likely tbh.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,115 ✭✭✭Pal

    doubt it too.

sinnotts will be absolutely stuffed for this. If so, then just down the street is what used to be Down Under (renamed rolly polly or hoi palloi or some stupid name now). If it's anything like it used to be it could be a good fallback from sinnotts.

The porterhouse beside trinity was ok for the world cup final, and the barge has been decent for the odd sporting event.

IMO Best thing is to gather all your mates in the one house and get a carryout. Come up with a few drinking games based on pre match comments by dunphy/giles etc (e.g. drink a shot every time Bill O'h does his stupid laugh :D ) Organise a few nibbles and bobs our uncle, fanny's your aunt!

The Palace on Fleet St. won't have any United fans.

But they won't be showing the match either, so it's a double-edged sword.

to all the utd fans only, triv?a bar ond venue (also called o sullivans) on westmoreland street will be showing the match with the man utd supporters club there, with food provided, going to be an amazing atmospheric night!!

    a quick google search gave:

In Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Obi-Wan Kenobi described Mos Eisley as a "wretched hive of scum and villainy."

A 50in plasma with 12 other united fans, cos we can't go to moscow :( and we can't stand listening to ABU's, then straight into town to Celebrate!! ;)

Now if there was a place with only Utd fans and Chelsea Fans then it'd be a great night.

I remember in '99 watching it in college res, everyone left to go drinking with 10mins to go, they all thought we'd lost it, and they left me with a Liverpool fan, when we won the two of us were going mental, I promised him I'd never tell anyone he was celebrating..........sorry Sharkey!!!!!

    Pathetic on so many levels.

I'll be watching it at home with the flatmates, a few beers and some of my famous Pasta Amatriciana.

Come on Chelsea. Mother Russia will inspire you.

Hittin the pb at 12 noon tomorrow for a day of boozing, pub food and football. Probably not the wisest choice with an exam on friday, but you gotta have priorities...

I'd have to agree with all that! Was there for the Chelsea-United game a few weeks back, and the place was packed and buzzin, keep in mind it was an early kick off!

The players bar at Dalymount is the home of the Irish Chelsea fan club, but you have to be a member (either of Bohs or the CFC fan club) as far as I know

I watched the '05 final in Panama on the north quays. There were loads of plasmas showing the match, and they had full sound on before the match and half time etc to hear the talking.

Wherever you go, amke sure to get there fairly early to get a good seat (and not one that people will pull chairs in front of either).

I may even buy you a pint. :)
