Not sure whether this is better here, or in the UCC forum, but basically I'm coming to the end of First Year Maths Science in UCC, and am unsure what stream to go for next year. Having done Physics modules all year, I'm sure that I don't want to do Physics and am debating between pure maths or financial maths.
My favourite modules all year were Maths Modelling, Linear Algebra, and Abstract Algebra, which would probably steer me towards pure maths, but given the financial degree offers exemptions to all actuarial examinations, (which is something I'd definitely at least consider in terms of jobs), I feel it's something I can't pass without a lot of serious thoughts. There's other small things pulling me in either direction, which are more to do with me/UCC specifically, but this is the main gist.
Anyone (UCC or otherwise) willing to lend a word of advice?

I assume when you say all actuarial examinations, you mean the core technical exams? - you will still have at least 7 exams after that. If you seriously think that you might go down the actuarial road - then I would suggest doing that course - the exemptions will probably save you 2+ years of exams and get you a higher salary leaving college if you do decided to do actuarial exams.
