Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Intercity train prices

    I was looking at prices for Heuston-Thurles for Sunday 19th June and after playing around on IrishRail.ie I notice that some Heuston-Thurles and Heuston-Limerick fares are the same (one example is 11h25 from Heuston). How does this make sense? Maybe some of you could shed light on the reasons for this.

    Edit: 11h25 Heuston-Portlaoise is also the same fare as Thurles or Limerick: €19.99.

    They are promotional online fares, discounted.

    The walk up fares in the station would be different for both.

    Thanks. Regardless it doesn't make sense to have the same fare for different length of trips. Oddly enough Portlaoise-Limerick isn't available to book.

    Well if a company is offering discounted prices for a product I think they're entitled to charge what they like!

    The online fares are a real mixed bag. Quite often the walk-up price is cheaper.

    On Sunday 19th June, Heuston to Portlaoise is €16.80.

    You should never really book between Dublin and Dundalk, Carlow, Athlone, Portlaoise and Maynooth as the chances are that there will be some form of commuter promotional fares. You will see that in some cases on limited services are available to book and those are the intercity ones which stop at some more commuter type stations

    As for longer destinations, IE know that the the public will only pay a certain level of premium to use the train over a bus. In some cases it's more cost effective to purchase return train fares.
