"TOR Destination" ~ Loforo.com??

    Hopefully this is the correct forum for this, if not please advise!

    After browsing Boards at work I got the attached message from our global IT, basically saying "we detected that you reached a destination "Loforo.com/asset/1576/1849_5e4a.jpeg” that was recognized as TOR".

    The link is from an embedded picture in a "Life Hacks" thread on Boards.

    The site loforo.com (which I stupidly just checked on the company network again!:D) seems to be just a hosting site for imagines, files etc. and appears to be legit. A quick google didn't indicate anything nefarious about the it.

    Any idea why Loforo.com is considered a "TOR destination"? Or for that matter, what exactly is a "TOR destination"?!

    With TOR it is necessary to check the IP address rather than the domain name. The IP address ( 138.201.35.6 ) is flagged as a TOR entry or exit point. Some sites may also be running as a TOR node.

    A TOR Destination is a bit like the onramp to a motorway. It's what you use to get onto the Dark Web.



    In web hosting, there is something called a VPS or Virtual Private Server. This is a virtual server, possibly multiple virtual servers running on one piece of hardware and so one IP Address. One user is using his VPS for hosting images, but another user is usning his VPS for hosting a TOR destination. Both use use the same IP address, so your traffic to the image hosting site is confused for trying to access the TOR destination.

    Thanks. Is this something that the owners of Loforo would know about/need to intentionally set up or could it happen without their knowledge?

    Secondly, if you're feeling patient, when you access that IP address, what determines which VPS you see?
