Did they kill Hannah?

Doubt it. Hannah's a character in "The Testaments" and the show's writers indicated the TV show would link up canon wise with that.

Note the spoiler is mainly for "The Testaments" novel ^^

Yeah, I probably shouldn't have asked that one, but what do they do to her in the meantime? I suppose we'll see.

Shark jumped. Totally stupid (yeah sure she'd still be alive). I adored series one - found myself considering maybe I preferred it to the book.

Still loved it for series two - when others felt cracks were showing.

But by series three... too ludicrous. I'll still watch it though.

Will certainly be tuning in, partially because my current TV schedule is very light. Agree that the suspension of disbelief with June's longevity is quite a bit eye-rolling.

I was the same with The Affair (Dominic West and Ruth Wilson, along with numerous other excellent actors). Started off just so good - great, thoughtful writing. Then it turned into the stupidest, trashiest soap opera... and I didn't miss a beat.

I'd imagine that the first season and some of the second season were easy enough to write as they had the book as the base material. Then it became harder to work out where to go with it to keep it going. I think one of the problems that is more prevalent with American TV that over here (British TV for the most part) is the notion of keeping a programme going because it's popular rather than just telling the story, and it that only lasts 2-3 series so be it.

It's probably a good thing that Margaret Atwood wrote The Testaments two years ago because now there is material for an ending, hopefully they'll meet up in the middle.

It was fine two years ago, I think with the way things have been with lockdown for the last year it's a much harder watch. I will still watch the fourth series, but I probably won't rewatch the third beforehand.

I don't see why not, there's so much repeat stuff on every channel at the moment, it shouldn't be too hard to fit it in.

I hope RTE have it would be handy as hulu isnt avaliable here.

Failing that, who has it? Sky? Will have to buy a now tv pass if so.

Channel 4 are scheduled to get it just no idea when.

Ugh..trailer didn't hook me just yet. I'll give it a shot but this series is really going the way of the walking dead, starting strong and then just declining massively as source material is further diluted. No really storylines or plotpoints, every episode is just a drawn out tease that alludes to some big bag finish that never really delivers. I adoreeed the first and second season, pure magic ..gave the chills the jitters..might just watch that again instead of this :pac: Don't know if I have the energy after the flatness of the last season, god that took some commitment to get through, don't remember looking forward to a single episode in season 3 really. Can barely even remember the storyline of the last season , which says it all!

I'll watch season 4 when it comes out as following it for the last 3 seasons, I've grown attached to some of the characters in it. I always thought the series always had a strong cast in it, Joseph Fiennes, the actress who plays Serena among others, loads of great actresses and actors.

It's one of the greatest problems they have with the series - June's plot armour is ridiculously thick. If they really want to extend the series, the best option is to bring other characters more to the front before having her killed off. It seems a common mistake Hollywood writers fall into when trying to create a strong woman to be the lead in a series: they over-power the character and make them as bulletproof as an Arnie character in one of his 80's action films.

The trope of the "Mary Sue" is becoming increasingly common as studios compete for the more lucrative female audience that advertisers want (women spend more than men do): the continued focus on the insufferable Piper made me lose interest in Orange is the New Black (where she was surrounded by more interesting characters); the superwoman character of Michael Burnham has completely ruined Star Trek Discovery and it's not just in TV, the same phenomenon was glaringly evident with Rey in Star Wars or Captain Marvel in the MCU...

Good first episode, Mckenna Grace was great and she is only 14 and she stole the episode for me.

Episode 2 was good to see more of what is going on in Canada.

And with Episode 3 which was directed by Elisabeth Moss I'm finally done with the torture porn of June now with that ending

They are continuing with an awesome soundtrack though.

How is yer man sympathetic-commander-baby-daddy still in a position of power and trust?
Every interaction he has with June is all doe-eyed lovey-dovey with deep meaningful eye contact and tender touching, usually without any concern for who might be watching, and that last passionate scene on the bridge was apparently in the full view of the two guards who brought June there, AND the driver/guard in the other van and Aunt Lydia.

Yeah I felt the same a bit. Was all a bit drab. What really made the first season (and second to a slightly lesser extent) stand out was just how beautifully produced everything was. Made the film adaptation look like an amateur production.

Bit disappointed with how the 3rd episode went. Looked like they were finally moving things along only for

June gets caught. There's some torture porn but no permanent damage for June. Others end up executed for June's misdeeds. June becomes a handmaid again with no major repercussions for her. Rinse wash repeat

They've really gone all in on the constant close ups of people's faces, it's a good technique used in moderation but it's completely overdone here and comes across as lazy. The story is pretty grim and depressing, thought it might be a bit more upbeat or progressive this season but doesn't look like it so far. I'm only still watching as the wife enjoys it and I already make her watch enough tv shows she isn't that into.

TBF the film is over 30 years old. Even a 2010 TV version would look better!

Well for those looking for a bit more info on life outside Gilead, the episode 'Milk' this week delivered.

Still unsure about where in

America it was that June and Janine landed? Who knew there were such cities left not under Gilead? I was certainly under the impression that all of the US was now just Gilead

. I suppose i didn't think about it much. I hope they do more on this over the season.

I definitely set this to record on RTE but low and behold it didn't. Noticed the same with Godfather of Harlem on Monday, I definitely had it set to record but it didn't trigger. Watching shows on RTE can be so frustrating sometimes.

Episode 1 is on demand thankfully on Sky and presumably the rte player also. It's also repeated next Wednesday night/early Thurs morning at 12.10am on rte2.

Same here! Definitely set it to record, just now found out that it didn't, but got it through the catch up.

Make sure you set next Thursday's episode to record, because it had removed the series link for me.

In the third episode of the fourth series, June begs to die but Lydia tells her that handmaid's are needed that much that she is kept alive. Yet we see the opposite with a scene involving two handmaid's in the same episode. Very large plot holes imo.

2: That felt a bit like filler too. I thought something of a

season arc was being put out but after the tense arrival of Nick and capturing June and so many Chicago name drops, it kinda feels like maybe the season is going to be majority about building to something big there.

I haven't seen this yet, but would that be because June has already had children, including as a handmaid and the others might not have?

It would be unrealistic if June and Janine went through all that in perfect harmony and never arguing. It would be the same if it was June and Nick, or June and Luke or Janine and Moira/Emily.
