Decathlon

I've bought some clothing from them over the years. All holds up! Exercise gear, swimming clothing, even the wetsuits etc. Can't argue with it and haven't had a problem with the quality.

I find their gear ok. Not great, just ok - and I've replaced most of it over the years. Personally I think it's most useful if you're starting off in something and don't know what great gear is, or you're just trying something out. If I was planning on walking the Camino or climbing a mountain I'd go to one of the outdoor specialists, but if I just wanted to go up the sugarloaf with the kids I'd go to decathlon.

Would like to know this too. Only reason I considered visiting in person was to try on before buying. If that's not possible, I'd just buy onlineb and save myself the trip.

Also, when drove out last week to go to IKEA and decathlon, the queues to get into both were mental, so just turned back around. (Obviously I'm not 200k away from them, but was still 30min drive each way for nothing)

Thanks. Went today at 10.15am, no queue in decathlon. There was a short queue of about 10 people when we came out at around 11am and car park was almost full at 11am (but you could park in IKEA and walk across).

Q in isn't too bad in my two experiences of being there.

No changing rooms open but they have a great returns policy so aside from the hassle of going back, its worth picking up a size or two extra. Or trying stuff on over your clothes (Like I did)

The Q for the tills can be long though so its worth sticking someone into that if you have a spare body in your party.

I discoered Decathlon on trips to France. I've bought tonnes of stuff over the years. Everything from snorkels to fins to bodyboards and wetsuits. I use their baselayers for golf and hiking. I've a full set of winter golf gear all ready for this coming winter.

I used their fleeces, gloves, hats, socks and neck gaiters for both Kilimanjaro and Anconcagua. They have a mountaineering shop near Antibes, Chullanka is the name, and it is all stocked for the Alps. I got a down expedition jacket for €60, it was the previuos years colour apparently. Like I cared. Head into Great Outdoors and ask for a coat to head to 7,000 meters.

They do 3 levels on most items. Entry, mid and elite. Depending on your demands and tastes you might find that the top end is good enough for you.

My wife and daughter swear by their top end jodphurs and tops.

They do carry known brands too, just not many.

Their website is horrendous, but it baffles me that an international retailer that big, doesn't even have one mention of Covid-19 or restrictions on their website. Unless they operate as normal, which might be the case. But I don't think sporting gear is considered essential.
