Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

David Bellamy Dead

What a legend. A working class guy who made some of the greatest nature TV shows ever. Including a great series on Ireland. The irony of the Climate Change knobheads attacking him as he did more to highlight ecology than anyone. Unlike the silver spoon aristocrat Attenborough - acting like colonial attaché having his cases carried by coolies and manservants - David Bellamy took you to the natural wonders in your own neighbourhood be it in England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales. His nature was our nature too. He spoke to you and not down to you. They sure don't make them like him anymore.

He did have the most amazing individual voice when speaking didn't he? Big head of hair too from what I remember from a good few years back.

Just like my now gone Dad. Ah well, it's Christmas season and we will remember them.

A true gentleman who lived his beliefs. I met with him first in the early 70s, when he was working on Bellamy's Britain. I am so sorry to hear he has died. Rosemary only died last year; their children will surely miss his wonderful presence and humour.

He became controversial when he claimed climate change was not down to human activity and it seems he was not entirely wrong in his hypostasis.

He was a tremendous educator and a fantastic water colour artist.

Must get some of his water colouring guide books. Been meaning to try my hand at it. Anything he ever showcased educational wise seemed so accessible and enjoyable.

To be fair to him, he didn't always disagree with 97% of the world's climate scientists.

I don't think I was that into nature as a kid, but his enthusiasm, charisma and personal warmth always made you sit, watch and learn.

You'll find most ecologist and scientists from the 70's and 80s agreed with this in early documentaries and papers.
Their main concerns were, overpopulation, resource exploitation and extreme pollution.
    CO2 was noted but wasn't a concern.

oh ffs, Just let us for five minutes say what a legend he was.

I always enjoyed his programmes, particularly when he would end up to his waist in mud purely to demonstrate how muddy an area was. He was very 'hands on' he'd pick up a lump of shiit and hold it up to the camera when talking about whatever animal it was that left it there.

    RIP David.

What do you do for a living, ecology or media? Or did you know him socially?

He had a real soft spot (eh hem) for Ireland's wetlands and bogs. I remember an interview on the late late when he highlighted how unique and fragile habitats they were and unfortunately how we were ( and stil are) destroying them for the short term gain of peat production.
