Good value tempeh in South Dublin?

    Are there any of the large supermarkets that sell this, or perhaps there's an Asian supermarket somewhere in Sandyford, Leopardstown, or Dun Laoghaire, where I can buy it in bulk?

    I have heard Nourish sell it, but I imagine it is very expensive there.

    I don't know any in particular as I get it in town but it's in most asian supermarkets that I've been to.

    Thanks. I discovered there's what seems like a large Asian supermarket in Stillorgan called Ingredients which I am going to check out!

    Any suggestions on how to eat this for a quick supper snack? Would you cook it or eat raw? If all else fails I could resort to the whole just put it in your mouth method.

    I have never eaten seitan or tempeh. Am I missing out? What do they actually taste like?

    I’m not a fan of tempeh but seitan (home-made very easily - search for the last thread on here) is wonderful, very rich and savoury. Shop-bought nearly always has soya in it, which I’m avoiding for a period.

    Nice tempeh fried and seasoned is very good. Most tempeh ends up tasting kinda nutty, not in a good way.

    Seitan tastes like whatever is used to flavor it. It’s just lumps of gluten. It can be made to taste a lot like meat.

    Tempeh is very nutritious. Seitan has a more limited nutrition profile but is extremely high in protein (higher than meat) because its basic ingredients are protein and water.

    Seitan has the bonus of shocking people who think gluten is some sort of super toxic stomach destroyer.
