Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi contact Kildare animal foundation and get advise from them. They may have somewhere quite near you as there are trained volunteers all over the country that help in situations like this! Call them now for advice, don’t leave it until the morning

Will they be open at this hour? Have you a contact number for them?

    Probably not a baby.[/quote]

I think you are correct. It has fur on it. It is alert but seems weak. Maybe dehydrated. Any idea how I can attempt to rehydrate? I have it in a box in the garage where it is dark and cool

Please read the information on how to care for the bat in the attached link. Don’t speak or handle as this may stress it out more. If for some reason you must handle it you need to wear gloves as per the information above.

It would be great if it got warmth and hydrated. If you suspect it was caught by bat it needs antibiotics.

    https://animalfoundation.ie/wildlife/

Please see the helpline number above. There is also a Facebook page you can contact.

Is the bat hanging upside down in the box? They are more comfortable upside down.

The hot water bottle used as described in the Irish wildlife matters page is great tip. The bottle needs to be well wrapped up.
Do you have a paint brush to use to try and rehydrate it?

Also just be aware that the bats can appear to be passed away but are actually in torpor. Torpor is a state is reduced metabolism to conserve energy, (they can look like they has passed away but are in torpor) warning them up can bring them out of this state sometimes

It is not a baby. Grounded bats are not that u usual and normally leaving them somewhere safe nearby is sufficient. If you want you can contact those detailed above but don't try warming or feeding it.
