Getting a diagnosis

    I have had issues for years. It was suggested to me by a counsellor that I see a clinical phycologist and get a diagnosis. How long would a diagnosis take? What kind of expense am I looking at.

    The waiting list for public is long. Is there a difference between phychiaridt and a clinical phycologist?

    Yes there is.... some problems can be diagnosed by a psychiatrist and some by a psychogist.... you need to provide more information about what is wrong with you....

    Doctor said anxiety with mild depression. On ssri for the second time in my life. However I have had issues going back into my youth.

    You can get a referral to a psychiatrist fom your GP.

    There are public mental health clinics. I think these are free for everyone. You might be waiting to see someone through one especially if you are deemed mild.

    A session with a private psychiatrist might cost 200 to 300 euro. You might be able to claim some of this against health insurance. [It's possible I am confusing that with the figure after a a 50% rebate from insurance.] A single session might be sufficient to give a diagnosis and prescribe medication if required. Your GP should be ok to monitor you so you might not need frequent sessions with the specialist.

    Would the Dean clinic be a good option?
    I am just googleing psychiatrist but having trouble coming up with one(west of Ireland)

    I phoned the Dean clinic. The need a referral from my doctor. €395 for my first visit. €150 for further sessions. I will have to talk to a mental health nurse for 30 minutes before seeing the psychiatrist for my first visit.

    Well the obvious thing would be the course of treatment. It would vary according to the diagnosis. I am looking to improve where I am at now. It is affecting both my work and personal life.
