Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

New build wiring: new regs since 2010

    1: what new regs have come into force since 2010 that I should be aware of. I know twin and earth has now sleeved earth is one of them

    Shaun, you can't ask for this here. It is against the law. A REC can't certify someone else's work

    You cannot do any electrical work anymore on any home even your own without being registered and certified. Experience is now irrelevant. Use someone on Safe Electric website.

    Hi Shaungoater, have a read of this and it will explain the present situation.

    In terms of a new build (or rewire) there is very little that you are permitted to do other than:
    ⦁ Wire the intruder alarm (ELV cabling only)
    ⦁ Wire for satellite TV (coaxial cable only)
    ⦁ Ethernet cabling
    ⦁ Speaker cabling
    ⦁ HDMI cabling

    Obviously the above would have to be coordinated with the REC.

    The only legal way around this is if you were working for the REC that is wiring your home. In this scenario you may be able to negotiate a favourable rate with your employer (the REC).
