    Got married last year...both of us earn 60k +
    Any point in joint assessment?

    Not at all . You would be 150e better off on either single assessment or separate assessment in 2019 anyway

    Not sure how you are working that out. At the moment there is no advantage to joint assessment but you won’t be worse off and as there can be advantages in future such as if one of the couple is out of work or on Mat leave etc it’s no harm to have it all done.

    I agree with Colby Blue Cliff- there's no disadvantage to going as jointly assessed and it can be advantageous if a spouse has to take maternity leave/ sick leave and suffers a drop in income- jointly assessed have some additional flexibility in terms of sharing tax credits/ standard rate band.

    Similarly, based on you both earning over €60K pa, I don't see how the saving calculated by allthedoyles arises.

    Cover so that if one of you are in a car crash or have other sudden changes of circumstances the other can benefit from tax credits without a long lead time.
