I don't understand why this place doesn't have student nights? If they had a bit of music and cheap drinks, the place would be full of students, because at the moment the only place to drink in castletroy for students is the stables or scholars?

What is there to understand? If they wanted to be student pub then they'd be a student pub. Students aren't the the only source of business in Castletroy. Castletroy has a large non student population who like to go to a pub that is not full of young ejits getting wrecked on cheap beer and spirits. Add to that most students wouldn't go in there till about 10pm buy one drink and feck off to the city by 11 so no money to be made on that. Also on top of that student type pubs that are not on campus tend to be like a magnet for scumbags because of the cheap drinks

Why can't it be a student pub for one or two quiet nights when it doesn't get much business? The non student population of Castletroy are more likely to go out to a pub on a Friday or a Saturday when all the students are gone home, while UL students would rather go to the hurlers on a Tuesday or Thursday night.

The student population is already well served by the existing students bars. So the hurlers would risk alienating its regular business for the sake of having a few student party nights during the year. People like to go for a quiet pint(s) midweek and watch a match or play cards or whatever. These people go there all year round not just when college is in session. As you can imagine loosing these customers would be detrimental to a business.

There is absolutely nothing stopping students going to the hurlers any night of the week as it is. Also Not every student wants to go to a pubthat is heaving some like to go for a quiet drink and a chat

It used to be a popular spot about three or four years ago. They even had that shed place out the back and I think one of the lads involved with Crush/The Orchard owned it.
Student places come and go. I remember when I was in 1st year the likes of Charlie's and the Old Quarter were mad to target the student clientele in town. The Office was THE place to go for a couple of months as well.
