This is where I could start having issues with this game. There's only 2, maybe 3 songs so far that I don't like. The electronic genre is best suited to this kind of game. While I would have no issues with rock or metal, because there's still a decent beat (usually), I sincerely hope there's none of what I call suicide music, ie: Damien Dempsey, David Grey and all those other types.

I've great faith in Beat Games though, so I will await the next set before making judgement.

What I'd really love is a 90's dance set, with classics like Digital Punk, Played Alive, Kernkraft 400, Blah Blah Blah (anything Gigi really).

    LOL,

Beat Saber: For your next challenge, David Grey, This years love...
Me: How do I stab myself with this sabre thingy?

Bought this recently after reading here and having a mate tell me he's been playing too. Can only agree about the comments that the music does work despite not being what I'd listen to usually.

And yeah, some drum heavy rock could work really well.

Was inches from finishing Be there for you on E+ a few weeks ago but just couldn't get past one part of it. Took a break for a couple of weeks and tried it this morning, beat it first go! Went to emoji then and beat that first go too! That was the first time I've ever tried that stage on E+ too so I thought I was unstoppable...done about 5 other stages and failed them all miserably :D

Playing for less than half an hour and this is the sweatiest I've ever been while playing this game! The headphones kept falling out of my ears with the combination of sweat and fast movements.

Monkey, I'm after your scores on those 2 stages now :D

My Rift broke like two months ago and the shop says it's gonna be another two weeks till I get the replacement. Itching to play Beat Saber so bad.

Can nearly beat Angel Voices on E+.
Took a break playing for a couple of weeks and when I came back to it the other night I was better at the game than I was previously. Weird

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,282 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

I was the same, Angel Voices is still getting me at the end, but I haven't bothered practicing it. The ones I've yet to finish on E+ are Angel Voices, LVL Insane and Overkill. The rest I've gotten at least an A in E+ (I think).

Dropped out of the top 100 for that one song, haven't been able to get it as good since, but I remember the day I got it I was on point and haven't been since!

Edit: Threw it on last night and managed to finish LVL Insane on E+, very happy with that. Played it through with Slow Song first, then normal speed with No Fail on, and beat it on the 3rd go then. Then I discovered that I hadn't managed to get a A on Balearic Pumping. So still have 3 songs yet to get a minimum of A in E+. Slowly getting there, but can't see myself doing them before DLC pack 2.

Beat Saber on Oculus Quest supports custom tracks now via a mod

    https://bsaber.com/oculus-quest-custom-songs/

Official modding support is apparently coming too ... I may just have to rebuy this game :)

I wish Sony would sort something out for custom songs on the PS4. Like, surely with their library of owned songs, we could get at least some custom work! Checking out the artists they 'own' on Wikipedia shows a hape of artists!

    *me frantically googles Imagine Dragons*

Ah now I remember why I don't listen to new music.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,282 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Yeah, yesterdays announcement of a 10 song Imagine Dragons pack just took all enthusiasm out of it for me. Notice how all the ads for it have the same song, ie: the only song that most people would recognise. I had to listen to the rest on YouTube to see what they were like. Slow dry moany bitch bollocks is all it is. Bitterly disappointed in it. Won't be buying them, even if they have the best block/level layouts I can't bring myself to listen to it. I know they're trying to reach a bigger audience, but this was a terrible choice. Maybe a chart song pack with Imagine Dragons leading the charge, but no, 10 songs from the same crap band. Just a crap end to a crap weekend really.

This is where I get jealous of the PC crowd, having the custom songs to play. Unfortunately on PSVR we've another few months to wait and hope that it's actually something with a Beat in it.

So just finished another session, and they've changed quite a few of the original songs on E+. Country roads has gotten harder. Can still beat it, but I was getting S rank and now getting A. Noticed the same with Rum and Base, definitely more technical. The extras and Monstercat pack haven't changed though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 678 ✭✭✭SomeSayKos

I've noticed some issues since the update. Some hits are missing, and my 'sabers' act funny periodically, like they'll kinda jump a bit and it'll cause me to miss hits. A bit annoying. Didn't notice it before the recent update

I tried Angel Voices on Normal last night, it is definitely an extended version of the one that's been there - there is nearly 2 mins of wall to wall drums at the end of it now!

Noticed this too and it's put me off playing until they fix it. I'm definitely connecting with blocks but the game just seems to decide nope for no reason at all. Really ruins the concentration when it happens, I've stopped 3 songs in the middle of playing and quit because its screwing me out of the combo.

I still can't beat Angel Voices on E+... the end always got me. Will try it again later to see if it's any different! That and Overkill are the only 2 I can't finish on E+ now.

So you reckon it's longer now? There was always quite a bit of drums at the end. It's always been about 6 mins long (longest song in the game I think), I doubt they would change it.

I've been meaning to go back to it since the update. You can now get 115 per block instead of 110. 1 million on expert Angel voices is my next goal, was only a thousand off with the old system.

It’s definitely an extended version/remix of it - I played it on expert loads of times and was curious when I saw the other difficulty options available for it. It’s gets to the “normal” end of the track as it was, then goes off in to this non stop section of drums - totally caught me by surprise! :D

I can keep up with until the mad drummy bit at the end. The patterns just are not clicking with me. Even tried it on 80% speed and still failed!

Can finished a good few on E+ with Faster Song too. Jesus the sweat that comes out of me though, especially with This Time. Love that song. Possibly my favourite to play.

I did this for the first time last night. I managed to do the Popstars song, Rum N Bass and Elixia. Had to stop though coz I was drenched in sweat after!

While we wait for the next PSVR pack, because I still refuse to buy the Imagine Dragons pack, I was googling and there's nothing like the internet to remind yourself that you're not actually that good at the game. Granted, I believe he has No Fail on, but 72.58% on this is seriously impressive. My eyes cannot keep up with it, but still looks more enjoyable than playing ID...

3 new tracks released today by Camellia. Not sure what a Camellia is, but they're free at least

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,282 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

I was only thinking this thread took a death when the ID pack was released, so happy to hear there's some free stuff to keep us going. If anyone is interested, the songs are all by Camellia and are:

Crystallized - Melodic noise, more dubsteppy dancey.
Kasai Hardcores - Cycle Hit - Official BS video of the track, hard to explain, looks absolutely crazy on E+!
WHAT THE CAT!? - Think this could be up there with Rattlesnake as just noise

But they're free, and there's no moaney bitches singing at me, so I'll definitely be playing them! Will report back tomorrow.

I thought the thread died when everyone got arthritis in their shoulders!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,282 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Well if the songs to till now didn't break something, these ones definitely will!

Crystallized is pretty good. Expert is pretty hard, harder than some songs on E+ in parts. The E+ version of this is ridiculous hard. Arms gave up after 90 seconds or so, it's just constant up and down in crazy patterns.

Cycle Hits is a banging tune. Very euro dance and some dubsteppy parts. Expert is as joy to play and also quite difficult in places, but easier patterns. Definitely my favourite of the 3, easily. Expert I laughed at after 20 seconds, looks impossible, but will be the one I tackle first, if my arms are up for it.

Cats one is pants. As bad as Rattlesnake. Couldn't even allow myself to finish it on Expert and didn't even look at E+.

All in all, they've ramped the difficulty on E/+ massively. Feels like the E are standard E+ and the new ones on E+ feel like E++. I'd wager they're harder than Overkill. Also funny that 2 of these 3 free songs are better than 10 paid ID songs.

As long as Jaroslav does the good deeds and gives us another 10 decent to cracking tunes, Beat Saber will start to get more popular again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,282 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Ah here, someone has already got SS on Expert+ on Crystalized...

  • Registered Users Posts: 678 ✭✭✭SomeSayKos

I was only thinking this thread took a death when the ID pack was released,
I broke and bought two imagine dragon songs. Crap songs but fun to play.... I'm ashamed of myself

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,282 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

At least you've admitted it, that's the first step. I have heard the mapping is really good in them, but like Rattlesnake it's music I just don't like so I can't bring myself to spend money on them. At least Rattlesnake was the only bad song out of 10. With ID they're all bad imo.

  • Registered Users Posts: 678 ✭✭✭SomeSayKos

With ID they're all bad imo.
    yup. pure ear piss

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,282 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

I'm listening to Cycle Hit while I'm at work to get my head around it, so it should be easier to play then. Looking at the E+ video Beat Saber have put out, it seems manageable, but a lot of patterns to learn in a 5 minute song will make this hard. Think I need to get onto a personal trailer to build up my arm strength and stamina! This game will make me healthy, as long as the choons keep coming!

I would still sell a nut to get early 90s dance onto this, Played Alive, Kernkraft 400, Sandstorm, etc. I'd say they'd be brilliant!

Crystallized is a ****in banger, have it saved to my Spotify already :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,864 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

I've just asked Alexa to play Crystalised on Spotify and it played a song by someone called Joey <beep>. I thought it sounded perfect for BS then realised it's not the one mentioned here that seems so-so in comparison. Check it and see what I mean.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,282 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

So last night, I finally managed to beat Cycle Hit on Expert without No Fail. Serious tune, and such a joy to play. I initially thought the Expert+ mode would be impossible, but after breaking my arms trying it over the weekend, I reckon it's doable. Just need to nail those fast patterns! Haven't played the other 2, concentrating on Cycle Hits for now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 678 ✭✭✭SomeSayKos

Crikey. Those songs are tough, even on Expert

  • Posts: 0 CMod ✭✭✭✭ Cali Round Guano

cycle hit is definitely my nemesis on expert. i can just about get through it on 80% speed. those streams where if you miss one you're fcuked, get me every time

barely played the other 2 yet.
    didn't like imagine dragons pack.

someone mentioned rattlesnake - i like it, but it gets old after a couple mins

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,282 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Definitely, it's just too fast in some sections for me, but I'm starting to see patterns and get them. Can finish it on Expert with NoFail so that's a start at least! Finished Crystalized on Expert too, and that mad crazy bit in the middle wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but E+ is quite daunting! Tried to play What the Cat but just can't, terrible music imo.

And I was the one that mentioned Rattlesnake. I played it a few times until I finished it in E+ with NoFail (I think) and haven't tried it again since. Noise, like What the Cat.

making progress on cycle hit expert... down to the last 30 seconds of it now. though sometimes i just have days where i can't get past the first 30

learning commerical pumping e+ as well... just the last 10 second sequence to get through and i'll finally have finished it

are ye able to get SS scores easily? i'm grand with S but never make it past like 87% or something

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,282 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Haven't played it in a while, life n stuff, but fair play for even getting to the end on E+, think I only managed it once and lost it near the end.

Have yet to get an SS in any song, S is the highest I've ever been able to go.

Looks like next music pack or OST is coming on August 29th

Hopefully so. On their Facebook people are assuming it's the saber colour changing update, I really hope it's more music. And good music. Last thing we need is a DLC of Damien fecking Dempsey or some other moaney crap. With Jaroslav having stepped down to concentrate on the music, I'm hopeful it will be as good as the first DLC.
