Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

No Chassis number.

    Hi Chaps.
    I have a circa 1965 Garelli Capri scooter that I am restoring.
    There is no chassis no. stamped on the frame, the chassis number was on a plate that was riveted on, and these scoots were known for them falling off when the rivets corroded.
    I have the original reg no., EEI Sligo reg. and the engine no.
    Will this be enough to get a replacement Log book or am I screwed.

    Once you have the reg number I'd say you shouldnt have a major problem.
    I dont know if the Motor Tax Office will inspect the bike? Normally with cars or tractors they require you to visit a main dealer and have them inspect the vehicle. You may also have to complete an 'Ownership Affidavit' Form (available at Garda Station). This form (witnessed by Commisioner of Oath - usually a local solicitor) basically states that you are the legal owner of the bike.

    Btw, are you the registered owner?
    If so, you wont need to have the bike inspected ...just apply for a new log book.

    I am restoring a 1960 Berini M21 autocycle atm.
    Did you get your chrome wheels rebuilt? ..or re-chromed?
    Much trouble getting parts?

    Thanks Silvera, I have had to apply for a logbook for another scooter(Lambretta) the way you describe and figured I would have to do the same with this one, but it was the lack of chassis number that had me worried.

    The wheels are not spoked or chromed, they are pressed solid wheels and spray painted, although I have had mine powder coated. Earlier models did have spoked wheels though.
    There is minimal chrome on it, headlight surround and 2 air inlet grills, and that's it.
    I was lucky enough to source a new headlight surround, but no luck yet with the grills, so I might have to get these re-chromed.

    2nd hand parts are few and far between, and NOS parts are non existent.

    These scoots I think possibly were assembled in Ireland.

    I also have other scoots on the go as well, another Lambretta '57, Vespa '58, NSU Prima '56. All Irish reg'd.

    Have googled your Berini M21 Autocycle and they look fantastic, I might try my hand at one some time.

    Looks like a handy little thing in perfect condition now (I know it's not a pics of yours but you've mentioned restoration). Great to keep old Irish reg'd vehicles going.
