Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

On average it takes about 2,000 steps to walk a mile (1.6 km). Average height of a US male is 5'9" (175.7 cm).
Seven-league-boots are used in Terry Pratchett's Discworld books by the wizards of Unseen University. It is noted that, as their mode of operation places the user's feet twenty-one miles apart, skipping the required preparations leads to spectacular but tragic incidents.

It takes less delta-V to eject them from the solar system altogether.

Dropping them into a volcano is even cheaper and doable with today's technology.

What's the boiling point of polypropylene ?

A quick google says its around 120-132°C...which is good news I suppose as the water in the kettle should boil before the PP does!

Probably PVC which is really yuckie if it melts or catches fire.

Well if it catches fire the water in the pot (or in the kettle) would put it out... so it'd be grand.

Talking about the smell of burning plastic, I still remember the stench coming from the bakelite pot handles when my grandmother used to leave the flame too high on the cooker. Toxic stuff.

Don't be so stupid. That water would be hot. You'd need cold water to put it out. Lads, people are so tick. :D

Haha. You forgot the sarcasm tag.

Hot water is actually more efficient than cold water at dousing flames as it turns to steam faster.

Firefighters use "wetter" water to put out fires because it's better than regular water

    (Actually true)

Am guessing it has something to do with snakes shedding and the person who make the cartoon confused shredding with shedding.
Shredding is a playing style on guitar

What if you used dry ice ?

Doesn't apply as it can only used by Rock Stars or second level science teachers, by law.

Actually, I wasn't thinking right in saying this. Spray ice water out of a hose and it will instantly freeze, possibly making it not very wet.

Pedant alert. Water, whether a solid, liquid or gas isn't wet.

Not really as saying we are in the UK implies we are not independent whereas saying Finland is in Scandinavia still allows for independence. More like using the term British Isles

Fair enough, but all the Finns I've ever spoken to (and they are quite a lot) always made sure to correct anyone who would call them Scandinavians.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,265 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

And Ireland is in the British Isles, so that's less comparable too.

UK/Ireland isn't exactly comparable, but I couldn't think of anything better
