    General Etiquette

Welcome to the Gardening Forum. Please take a few minutes to familiarise yourself with the rules of the Forum.

This board is intended for discussion of gardening, planting and growing veg etc., undertaken by fellow users, and as a place to exchange tips and techniques. General rules of etiquette and good manners are to be respected at all times. Please refrain from posting personal abuse, bad language, advertising, spam or anything else that may warrant a ban.

Whilst advice might be sought/given, Posters should make every effort to verify advice expressed herein with an independent and knowledgeable third party before undertaking any major gardening project. The advice and opinions expressed on this forum are not those of Boards.ie Ltd. and the management accepts no responsibility for what is written and posted here. Boards.ie Ltd. and its contributors do not accept liability should your house fall down due to following advice or opinions expressed on this forum.

Linking to Other Bulletin Boards and Discussion Forums

The internet is full of gardening resources. That doesn't mean we don't want the Gardening forum here to also become a useful gardening resource.

One good example is the Irish Gardeners website (which is the first hit if you google that very term). There is a LOT of useful information on that site, and you'll often find answers there - however, we do not want users to simply link to this and other external sites in response to questions members of this forum have asked here. If you know the answer to something, we'd appreciate if you'd give that answer here. That's how the community will build.

As a result, the mods reserve the right to delete links to external chat threads in an effort to promote the discussion on this site. It isn't something we're going to start infracting or banning users for - we're just asking that you keep in mind that we're trying to build a community on this site, not anyone else's site.

    Offering Items for Sale

As the For Sale section is now closed, if you wish to make an advertisement for a something like free topsoil/seeds/plants please go to www.adverts.ie which is our new advertisement site. All ads are free and you will also find a services section where you can request a gardener/landscaper/handyman or similarly advertise the fact that you can provide these services. As threads cannot be moved to this new site like before, any such ads will be locked and moved to the recycle bin. This is a reasonable rule and as an example, the same would happen if you were to advertise a car for sale in the motors section.

    Seeking Legal Advice

Please be aware that there now exists a Legal Discussion forum on boards. If you want legal advice on planning issues or neighbour disputes, while you can request information about other people's experience on these forums, we cannot guarantee the validity of any advice given to you and you should always consult a solicitor.

    Planning Discussion

General planning topics can be discussed in the Construction & Self Building & Architecture & Planning forum.

Defamation and Owning Your Own Words

Any defamation found in this forum will result in the thread/post being edited or deleted. Defamation is when something is said about another person (legal, natural or otherwise, that means companies can be defamed) that is untrue and damaging.
    What is Defamation?

    • Defamation occurs where a false statement is published about a person which tends to lower that person in the eyes of right-thinking members of society. Defamation is a generic term – slander is defamation in a transient form, while libel is defamation in written or permanent (or equivalent) form.

    • Defamatory statements include accusations of professional incompetence, or of unethical, illegal or immoral behaviour.
