Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Refund Question

    Hi there,

A group of us booked a stag weekend through an Irish website a few months ago. Most of the money was paid up front. Given the current situation, it was, of course, unable to go ahead.

In a response to an email about getting refunded, they said "At this time businesses are advised to offer postponement or vouchers (which would be our usual policy) in order to stay afloat. We're hoping to revisit this but at this time these are the only terms we are able to offer."

    Does that sound correct?

I “think” that you can’t insist on cash refund.

My understanding is you can insist on a refund if the goods or service you purchase are faulty.
For other reasons you can be offered a credit note or alternative date.

Given that most people who booked hols through this company covering any date after the start of the lockdown period are going to want refunds, would imagine vouchers are the very best you can hope for. FWIW, I've got loads of tickets for concerts, I'm in pretty much the same boat.

Suggest you read the T&Cs on your tickets, documentation from the company where they will spell out their policy re refunds in some detail

You may well be entitled to a refund .. however if every customer looks for the refund the chances are the company would be bankrupt and as such you’d get absolutely feck all ...

Travel agents in Europe, where EU regulations apply, are currently in negotiations with legislators to suspend the existing rules of refunds within 14 days and allowing credit vouchers which are still covered should a business go bankrupt.

The EU is being slow to respond to these agents, hence why many are going rogue and either delaying responses, or only offering credit notes, with the expectation that either the EU will side with them eventually or the courts will side with them given the unprecedented circumstances.

As mentioned, if every person demands a refund instead of a credit note, businesses will go bust and no one will get anything. Credit note covered by EU regulations is best you could get in this instance.

That is pretty much it. Everyone is entitled to a refund, but it just isnt possible. If everyone got a refund, the companies would go bang and then a lot if not all of the refunds would bounce.

You are fecked if you do and fecked if you dont.

I think a lot of the travel agents/entertainment related businesses etc. are going to go wallop eitherways so could end up with a credit note/voucher that will be useless.
