    Was he that good?A lot of it was squelling feedback and to me he was a bit hit and miss.

    In terms of wider appeal, he did benefit from having a strongly focused producer in the studio. He was constantly creating music rather than playing music, probably never played a song the same way twice. I think his exceptional legacy is partly due to the fact that most people would have only heard the records before seeing him live. That would make it a pretty wild and unforgettable experience. Listening back through the dozens of live albums and bootlegs since you might get a bit of fatigue with the constant experimentation. There’s an unusually high number of exceptional moments of genius though.
