Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That none xbox cable is meant for a phone, you can switch between game and phone chat by moving the switch (blue is game, and pink is phone), you should use the USB on the PS4 as this way the volume of the chat can be controlled.

If you have the USB plugged into the PS4 then you don't need to connect the Dualshock to anything.

That's fairly handy alright, must remember that!

Only problem I have with the usb on the PS4 is that it's miles away from the place for the headphones on the telly!

People with the px22s how is your sound quality on the ps4? I got the headset yesterday and have it plugged in with the USB to console and the jack in the controller. The sound is decent but not very immersive. When I used them on my PC the sound is way better? What's your headset like ?

Have them plugged into an amp and the sound is great.

I'm a complete noob when it comes to the headsets but I'm very impressed so far given I have them hooked up to the telly. Thought I could hear lads coming up behind me in BF4 and sure enough I had a knife in the gob soon after. They're definitely an improvement on the 360 for me anyway :P

I may or may not have had 10 - 16 pints :P, so let me know if the following needs clarification:

Headset plugged into the volume control. Volume control dealy has two outputs along cable - jack and usb. Plugged both into telly - sound clear as day to me after that. In order to get mic (so all could hear my infinite words of wisdom) I plugged 3.5mm cable that came with set into the controller and the plug that fits it on the volume control device. Granted movement of controller is slightly restricted as the cable is short, but works good enough for me!

Buy a USB extendion cable to connect to the PS4 as the way you have it now you can't use the variable mic (making you louder), you can't control the chat volume on the fly with the headset controls, and I don't think the chat boost works this way either.

they cost next to nothing and you'll no longer need to have a cable connecting the to the controller.

Been looking at the Turtle Beach PX4's myself:

Turtle Beach PX4 Wireless Gaming Headset

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 160 ✭✭Caoimhin

    Hi Guys,

I am thinking of buying a pair of Astro A40s the 2013 editions soon. It is quite a lot of money so I am still on the fence, the other options are some high end Turtle beaches or some Sharkoons.

I game solely on the PS4 now and play first person shooters. Not interested in listening to music with them or movies, purely just for gaming. Obviously the positional accuracy, ability to hear footsteps etc, is a huge factor for me.

    Any suggestions?

    Many thanks,
    Kev

I went with a set of Skullcandy PLYR 1 and couldn't be happier. I was originally going to go with Asto A50, but read a lot of reviews stating that the bass was too high on them and then found the PLYR 1. I purchased them from the Eu Skullcandy site with free express shipping for €179.99.

Link of anyone is interested: http://eu.skullcandy.com/plyr-1

ok so only been running the astros for about 2 hours now and so far so good. Updated the frimware and everything works perfectly, voice commands with the PS4, chat is crystal clear etc.

The sound quality is pretty nice, not as amazing as people hype it up to be, but better than my tritton 720's. It seems I can locate the sounds such as footsteps, reloading etc much more precisely. Both within cod ghosts and BF4.

Early days still, but I will keep you updated. My other choice was the Turtle Beach xp510 just because of all the features they come with

Ok it turns out I was wrong, the astros are actually very good. The sound quality is class the sense of positional sounds is deadly. Pretty surprised, sorry I got mine in game stop

Yay, my turtlebeach XP500s work. Always had sound but couldn't chat. Using the mono headset with them enables chat. Much happy. Went onto Battlefield 4 - ecstatic can now communicate. First game on got abused for being Irish by two idiots from the NE of England. It's been ages since I've been able to rage against random muppets on the internet. :D

No where on steel series site does it claim to work on the PS4 - I doubt that they do.

I closed your two threads - this thread will do for headset discussions.

You can order one on the UK Astro website too. Make sure you update the mixamp before you start. It is pretty sweet and the best headset Ive used so far.

How did they sound with films/tv if you tried that?

Have not tried them with an epic movie yet really. Have only have watching shows like Sherlock. I must give that a try. But they are class with cod, battlefield and kilzone. I can hear stuff Ive never heard before.

Saying this I have only ever tested trittons, Astros and Turtle Beach.

I'm using it at present but only to be able to chat. Have a wireless headset that doesn't have that capability for PS4 (although I have a PS4 chat cable ordered)
Put the mono ear piece in the pad & ear and have the headset on as well. Whatever way I set it up the chat function comes through the mono headset but everything else comes through the wirelss headset. Works great.

Anyone found good quality affordable ones?

To **** am I paying the 200+ plus I saw Astro's for in the likes of Gamestop. I just bought a second pair of Steelseries Siberia for my PC, first pair lasted 6 years. Best headsets I've ever used. Cost me €60...cant justify paying big bucks for console headsets

Anyone have an opinion on the Tritton 720?? I wanted the Astro A40's but they look like they have too many wires and I have a problem with that as it is!

If there's a clear difference between the quality of the two, I would buy the A40's though. Anyone ever used both?

I actually have the Tritton 720s and the 2013 Astro A40s. The sound quality definitely better on the astros, you can just pin point where people are so much better and its much clearer. They have about as much wires as the 720s, a really nice mix amp. Also the build quality of the trittrons sucks.

Just an honest opinion, I used to do some competitive gaming, so I have tested some options. I am not a fan boy or either make, so the rest is up to you.

I bought a pair of PX22's in Argos and I think they're grand for 69 quid once I figured how to hook them up properly (thanks to advice of some on here). Mind you, this is my first pair of reasonably decent ones and I've no experience of the fancier ones, so not sure my opinion will carry much weight!

Like yourself, no interest whatsoever in paying 200+ for a headset, just something to hear the chat and in-game sounds clearly.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I'm leaning heavily towards the Astro's. I play a lot so I need quality and they seem the best. You get yours from Gamestop? The A40's are €199 on the website.

This is Gamestop at its bloody best. So the website and in store prices do not match because the website is a different supplier. They will not honor the online price and its €300 in store.

Yeah, got a bit of a shock, when I went in store yesterday, and there sold out on the web site. They look to be a great headset, but will have to go for another model as €300 is too pricey.

Honestly I wouldn't blame you they are pricey alright, you can buy them refrubished by Astro on ebay with a years warranty for half the price.

Will give that look, but leaning towards the Turtle Beach PX4, which is 180 euro on Gamestop web site (more or less the same on Amazon as well), and I think the same in store. The reviews I have read say there decent.

Exactly, and it doesnt require €200+ hardware to do so. Why the audio for party chat comes through a different channel then ingame is beyond me, when I move to headset
