Hi guys, anyone know any mechanic around Limerick that specializes in Saab cars as opposed to bringing it to the main stealership?

Do you have an idea of the problem is as Saabs for the last 10 to 15 years have been based on Opel (GM) cars som a mechanic familiar with Opels might be able to sort you out.

Clareview Motors on the ennis road (across from Greenhills Hotel) specialize in Saab afaik

  • Registered Users Posts: 51,114 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Clareview are main Saab dealers though.

Scuba steve, Clareview Motors are the main dealers for Saab so I try to avoid them as much as I can, thanks for the reply anyway:)

Bazz26, your right about the GM connection, however it is the chassis and other bits and pieces that are GM. Im looking for someone with Knowledge of Saabs "quirks" and maintenance of the engine. Thanks :)

Tony McElligott in Coonagh, he was head mechanic in Clareview Motors for many years, knows Saab inside out, prices very reasonable.

PM me if you want his number.

Possible he was a goalkeeper alright, he is a tall enough fella!

He is an excellent mechanic, what he doesn't know about Saabs isn't worth knowing.

If you drive past the driving range in Coonagh, go through the bad bends there is a very sharp turn to the right near some bungalows. There are two or three more bungalows facing you and his house is actually down behind the first bungalow, you can drive into the driveway down the side of the house and you will see another bungalow tucked away behind it. He has all the diagnostic equipment and car lift etc.

I can highly recommend Tony as he is a customer of mine for new genuine Saab and after market parts.

If any other Saab owner is looking for new Saab parts at a discount, please send me a PM. I specilaise in just Saab car parts and have been in business for 3 years.

    Thanks

Normally this suggests that the author of the post is annoyed or angry.

    Sludged up?

    Sludged up?

    I presume you have a 9-5 / 9-3 with the B205 engine.
If the turbo charger has not been starved with oil, then these engines can be ecconomically repaired (based on part prices) with some of all of the following parts:-
Timing Chain & Balance Shaft Kit,
    Oil Pump,
    Main Bearings,
    Con Rod Bearings,
    Oil Pressure Switch.
You will need to find a Saab specialist as the oil sump will need to be dropped and the oil pickup pipe cleaned.
Labour time could be high as there is quite a bit of work involved.

I didn't even know there was a saab mechanic in Limerick. When I had my 93 Aero it developed a leak and a few garages wouldn't touch it. Had to go to a Saab specialist in Meath. I sold my Saab a few months ago but I'm already regretting it. I've spotted a 03 95 for sale and I'm very tempted..

Hello, if someone could PM me Tony's number also please that would be great. Does he have full Tech II??

I've also seen that 95 up in Mayo. Very tempting, love that shape 9-5. It looks to be priced fairly high, but if you don't ask you won't get I suppose. It's been up and down on Done deal a while now. Might be worth making an offer.

Anyone able to tell me if Tony is still working on Saab's and can they pass me on his details if possible

    Thanks:)

  • Registered Users Posts: 16 Murphys001

    Hello crasy dash...
if you do not get any responses then please send me a pm and I'll pass on Tony's details. I was only talking to Tony last week as he is a customer of mine (along with virtually every other reputable Saab specialist in Ireland) for new Saab parts.
