Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Strange result there IMO. Nowhere Man was one of the comparatively weaker songs left in the competition - it's pretty forgettable next to the rest - and Hey Bulldog is an edgy attitude filled rocker that would still get a room absolutely going. In a straight fight the blander option seems to win out nine times out of ten.

Totally disagree with you! Nowhere Man is a great Beatles song (clever lyrics, nice tune, nice sitar from George too), while Hey Bulldog is an alright throwaway track for the Yellow Submarine album. Nowhere Man could go further depending on which song it faces in the next round. She Loves You, on the other hand, has not stood the test of time and could easily be knocked out in the next round.

Help! vs Helter Skelter – Hard to choose between the two, but I will plump for the more pleasant sounding pop tune. John beat Paul on this one.

And Your Bird Can Sing vs Hello Goodbye – Another difficult choice, but I will go for the more straight-forward song in this case. Paul beat John on this one!

Julia is a classic but Eleanor Rigby may be my absolute favourite Beatles song; dark, spooky, menacing orchestral goodness, like a song Pink Floyd would write on one of their weirder, drug-fuelled forays.

The decisions are getting far tougher now. Some fantastic songs getting knocked out regardless of which way the majority of these matches end up going.

Getting Better - just so it doesn't get whitewashed, it's too good for that, although Here Comes the Sun is a great song. Gomez do a really good cover of Getting Better. I think it was used on an ad years ago.
Eleanor Rigby - tough one this, I really don't like either song

As for the Nowhere Man debate, when I was in about 3rd class in the mid-70s we learned it and it somehow got shoehorned into our school play that year (no idea what the play was, but thinking back the choice of songs we sang probably more reflected the teacher's musical taste than any connection to the plot). I didn't like the song then, and tbh my opinion hasn't changed over the years, I've always considered it a bit dreary. Hey Bulldog, on the other hand, is an absolute cracker and I'm sorry to see it go out.

While My Guitar Gently Weeps vs Let It Be - not a fan of Clapton (the man or the guitarist) but he nails it here, and "Weeps" is a better song than Let It Be anyway.
Help! vs Helter Skelter - "I've got blisters on me fingers!!"
And Your Bird Can Sing vs Hello Goodbye - love the guitar lines on "Bird"; Hello Goodbye is a fun tune, but fairly lightweight.

    Group D

Back in the U.S.S.R vs The Fool on the Hill - "Let me hear your balalaikas ringing out..."
Getting Better vs Here Comes The Sun - HCTS is probably Georges best song for the Beatles (edging out Taxman by virtue of it's positive hopeful message).
Eleanor Rigby vs Julia - tough one this, but I love Julia, beautiful guitar arrangement (using the folk style they learned from Donovan in India, and subsequently used extensively on the White Album).

For some reason, I was thinking of Norwegian Wood, but, even without the sitar, I still think Nowhere Man is great! Instead of the sitar, there are nice vocal harmonies!

I have to admit that I am surprised that Let it Be is getting so few votes at the moment. While I do like George's While My Guitar Gently Weeps, I think Paul's Let it Be is striking and somewhat (at least!) heartfelt, plus it's a nice piano-led ballad with good additional organ by Billy Preston and nice lead guitar from George. Weeps turns into a bit of a jamming session two-thirds of the way through - nice but inconsequential, although Eric Clapton's lead guitar is good.

Yesterday vs Paperback Writer - Sorry, but Yesterday is dreary, and PW is a great song.
Blackbird vs Do You Want to Know a Secret - both are meh.
Strawberry Fields Forever vs Come Together - probably an unpopular choice here, but I don't like SFF and CT is great (plus whoever mentioned the police interviewing Lennon earlier made me laugh and I'll never listen to CT again without that image in my head).

    Group F

Golden Slumbers vs In My Life - both of these are pretty good.
Magical Mystery Tour vs Got to Get You Into My Life - just prefer it of these.
Taxman vs A Day in the Life - my favourite of their song and Taxman can't hold a candle anywhere near it.

I'm also surprised. Bit of a massacre by my reckoning - 13/3 or thereabouts. I expected Let It Be to make it to the final few songs.
